Eurofighter Typhoon - Germany's Best Fighter Jet (Part 2)

I said Vizender is somewhat right, I didn’t endorse the idea that spectral decoys mimick plane shapes. I would imagine spectral decoys mimick hot spots of an aircraft rather than mimicking a plane shape. Since ship spectral decoys aims to mimick hot spots of a ship as well rather than the total ship shape.

Anyway, I forwarded some slides of the presentation to you on discord.

“Ship” in this context likely refers to the aircraft, its a term occaisionnaly used to describe them (such as a “two-ship formation” for example). That being said, quoting that as being somehow analogous to replicating the aircraft shape is just a lie. Its just a technical way to say the spectral flares are tuned to very accurately replicate the aircrafts spectral signature.

As I said earlier, spectral flares do likely work decently at extended ranges where IIR seekers lack the resolution to properly make out the aircraft, and therefore cannot rely on the “imaging” part of “imaging infrared” seekers, but once the aircraft shape can be made out, they likely no longer work as decoys.

There’s a chance that is in part the reason why france went with longer ranged IR missiles. Its also likely the reason why the EFT can use both spectral flares in the 55mm dispensers, as well as BOL IR, where spectral flares likely work at ranges where BOL IR ineffective, and vice-versa.

@Gunjob please tell me thats a Joke :cope:

Bruh.

If they take that away from the EF-2000 I’m never touching germany again…

Didn’t germany use IRST with their EFT?

Not on our nornal ones, the 98+07 is the IPA7, a Testplane which has nearly every feature you can imagine, while the other is the Tranche 5 which we havent recieved yet

Uh, this is strange, until proven otherwise the AESA in the game do not represent a specific aircraft but a “what if” of the upgrades that each nation can or will make to its own

Top one’s a fibreglass mockup painted to promote Tranche 5. It’s previously been used for Airbus’ pitch for Eurofighter for Canada, among other exhibitions

Spoiler

There are 3 German-operated Typhoons that have had IRST. But they’re owned by Airbus for Eurofighter development as part of the tri-national consortium, rather than the German Air Force for operational roles.
The air force are currently getting Tranche 4 planes derived from the latest Eurofighter developments, and still opted not to include IRST.

The AESA Eurofighter in the German TT isn’t based on a Tranche 4 plane either though (no VOR/ILS horizontal antenna on the tail), so there’s no reason to remove the IRST if it’s not specifically trying to be a Luftwaffe Tranche 4.

Correct, thats why I hope its just a joke from the Mod

So it’s the F-4E all over again?

Best explained in the report, but in short the US F-4E is in a superposition, curated to meet a BR goal rather than conform to known configurational realities. It is somehow in nonspecific pre '72 configuration and yet has access to ordnance that it did not receive until the mid 80’s.

Non DMAS Blocks F-4E Should not have access to AGM-65 circa '72

“Not a bug, the game has the F-4E pre-71-237 (1972) configuration without the TISEO or DMAS upgrades.”

is somehow consitant with

“the in-game F-4E is a 1972 model without the DMAS upgrade, GBU-15 were added after the DMAS upgrade, so this is not a bug.”

at the same time

Good, i hope changes will be made especially with how much the german side trash the IRST and only talk about how much better Litening 5 is…

To be fair, it’s not even a Mod, he is one of the so-called “volunteers”
