Erie gunboat should be in costal tree

It’s a gunboat(frigate), its slow and have slow reload. It should be in costal tree.

Same goes for K2 and Lorelei gunboats. Egret sloop which was classified as frigate after war.

All gunboats should be in the coastal tree. When gunboats are in Bluewater tree they gain low rank, so been researched in a game or two, to never come back to them again, when they are in costal tree they are medium-top tier boat, so player stay with them for longer time, so more often to meet them in battles which is fun and diversifies the games compostitions. So they all should be moved to costal tree.

btw. if you don’t know gunboats have “2 hull sections destroyed to sink” rule instead of 3, same as frigates and corevets.

I always felt that they were kinda out of place in the blue water tree. This makes much more sense

Well I guess you beat me at this thread (was working on doing this earlier).

(My original title) Questioning the devs logic when it comes to naval tree branches & placement of equipment, USS Erie PG-50.

G’day, I once again find it strange that the devs seem to not be respecting their own trees placement of equipment, that in the past would logically be placed in certain branches but lately the devs seem to be swapping their placement.

Well this post will be late to the dev server, so lets get started.

Erie class Gunboat, USS Erie PG-50, is finally here yet how strange it’s rated a frigate & in the bluewater tree… Now in the past any vessel rated a frigate is usually put in the coastal tree, similar all gunboats are also in the coastal tree (along with frigates that in game are rated gunboats).

So why is as of late gaijin is placing frigates in bluewater? Can’t be tonnage as seen by many Frigates, Destroyer Escorts & actual Destroyers in the coastal tree, heaviest example is the Type F120 & Type 12. Can’t really be cannon armament either as there’s 4", 4.5", 5" cannons & LAA is already heavy as example the Buckley class, River class, Tacoma class, Type F120.

Also can’t be speed as usually many slow vessels are in the coastal tree with most either being 20kts or slower.

In the American tree, its successor gunboat classes are all found in the coastal tree even if smaller.

In more recent updates we’ve seen many frigates type vessels placed in the bluewater tree which are even more closer to vessels seen in the coastal trees & often seen at lower BR’s compared to coastal counterparts.

Last example was the Egrets class Sloop/Frigate, slow, heavy 4" armament (could’ve been heavier but gaijin wanted a hedgehog) an only 4.3 BR yet somehow rated a destroyer & placed in the bluewater tree.

Another example is the Lorelei K-4/ Artevelde which is generally closer to existing Coastal TT vessel in regards to tonnage & weaponry layouts, also rated a frigate & in bluewater.

Similar could also be argued for the Tsugaru class minelayer which has a light armament & low speed, yet like Egrets rated a destroyer.

Hmm, I almost dread heavier french sloops will follow a similar case of TT placement in the future.

Yeah they kinda butchering classes of some ships like unarmored Regolo which is flotilla leader which is classified as destroyers in other trees, but in Italitan that is light cruiser(just cause the guns, but similar concept Mogador leader have bigger guns and still a Destroyer) with all consiquences, mean time same ship with different guns in French tree is Destroyer(Guichen).

i think we should re-merge coastal and bluewater. progression makes no sense atm

For what worth? To grind all torpedo boats with Moffet in couple of battles to never play them? To gain high tier “costal ships” low coefficients for SL and RP? To make all premium boats tier 1 and 2?

Who ain’t playing boats won’t play them anyway.

I would vice versa play coastal to grind new Audace for example)
No need to merge TTs just add the possibility to cross-research both naval TTs.
