I think most of you are familiar with enlisted style of gameplay.
What if we could have something similar in WT?
Try to imagine:
small matches, like 4vs4 but you spawn in “tank platoons”.
For example, you have Leopard 2A4 in your lineup. You spawn it and you have your own tank + 4 other AI leopards driving with you, that you can give orders to. And if you die, you hop on the next AI leopards, untill all platoon is destroyed.
Just like enlisted.
I mean, this system works fine in enlisted, wouldn’t it be a cool idea to try out in WT?
The biggest plus would be “instant respawn” - if you die, you hop on to the next tank in your platoon, so no need to start again from spawn.
Of course it would have to be played only on the biggest maps.
Considering the godlike AI tanks that exist in War Thunder and the lost child AI soldiers in enlisted I think this would be horrible. Gaijin has no idea how to balance AI units and would likely make them closer to enlisted AI (useless)
This but not squads with 5 of 1 tank, more like a squad with 1 MBT and 2 supplementary vehicles, and maybe a dedicated troop carrier (unless Merkava or BMP that can carry troops as well as its main role) like Abrams + Bradley + Stryker
The AI would also be an issue, as WT AI is really strong but Enlisted AI is really weak.
I have thought of that too. Even for Air battles it would be cool.
Big maps, 4v4 or something and each player controls a whole lineup and you can have strike aircraft or bombers following a vector of your choosing and automatically target stuff or you hop between planes to make them more effective. Obviously maps and objectives would need to be redone like the RB EC passed suggestion.
We already have this type of mechanics with the drones and the incoming multi-vehicle SPAA
Well, when you play missions (you can find that in the left lower corner of testdrives for planes you own) you already get 3 extra wingman, who fly the same plane and loadout as you do. And they do well on there own.
So its already there, gaijin has alot less work to implement that, then people think.
Honestly, that is how the new SPAAs should have been implemented. You play one of the vehicles and the rest follows you around.
Gaijin at on point set the GRB air field SPAAs range so that it reached the ground spawn… You should have heard the shrieking from CAS about it. Apparently having to look for tanks across the map rather than just carpet bombing the spawn was too hard for a lot of people.
From my experience using it to practice gunnery with new planes or to re-adjust to flying planes I neglected -
The main reason for that is arcade flight models.
A.I Planes even if you choose “Simulator difficulty” still fly with massively simplified flight models. You can see this for yourself if you shoot their wingtip off while they’re in a turn and rather than enter a spin, they suddenly start wiggling and shaking in place until a few MINUTES later they crash.
The exact same behaviour can be observed with A.I aircraft acting as bomber/attacker/survey plane objectives in ASB. When it’s big bombers, it’s not as obvious but if you say, shoot a CL-13 sabre? Oh dear, cue hilarity.
A.I sabres are so tanky, I farmed ~5 severe damage KC off of a F86F40 after I ignited it. See bug report: Community Bug Reporting System
These bugs are fairly easy to replicate on 128x128 SB maps. The multiple kills being scored for 1 plane less so, but the cause (they keep flying without issue even with serious damage due to simplified flight model) is still easy to observe.
Giving this kind of A.I to a player to use outside of arcade game modes would be very, very unpleasant to fight against. It’s OK in mission editor because It’s good enough to lead your guns and you’re not playing to win, and it’s somewhat acceptable for passive A.I targets whose only self-defence is tail gunners.
Its normal to give AI cheates. To make sure they are competitive against players. Haveing AI who works with teh exact same as what the players have is generaly so hard, its not worth the trouble. Thats why you will find it rarely in any game.
Good AI is just well hidding the fact it has admin mode on the whole time.
And gaijin is not good in makeing anything. Even the monetization schemes are poorly executed.
