Engines sounds not rendering

This is a huge issue and needs to be fixed ASAP.

Look at that, insane!

How is it going to depend on vision? If I’m looking at a spot in an open field and I DON’T SEE ANYONE and out of nowhere I look to one side and look at the same side again in about 3 seconds and magically there’s a tank that wasn’t there before that kills me?

I think the thought is that it isn’t the “player” that is looking for the enemy, it’s the tanks crew. Since the crew is inside the tank they have very little field of view which makes it way harder to spot things IRL and extra much if the crew is inexperienced. Same with enemy engine sounds, it’s going to be quite hard to hear an enemy vehicle if you yourself is inside a tank that is running and loud.

But i personally still think the detection mechanic is in need of an update/remake as i stated earlier in the thread.

I mean, the game mechanics are based on the crew having to see and hear the tank and I wonder if it’s based like that and it’s based on the concept that it’s hard to hear and see tanks inside a tank that in top tier, that doesn’t happen to them because of the technologies they have and the commander’s vision which is 360 degrees in almost all tanks, what I mean is how is it possible for this to happen to me I have a tank in front of me behind a rock, I’m predicting its movement by its sound, and I’m still with the engine off, and there’s a point where its engine stops being heard too and it passes in front of me out of nowhere with no sound from the engine, and either I kill it or it kills me, or for example things that have happened to me too is, I’m advancing through an open field I look to one side there’s no one and a bullet comes at me looking from that side and a tank appears out of nowhere but I’m already dead of course, but while looking at that fixed point with binoculars that depending on if it is the crew should be looking for the tank, If he’s looking there and doesn’t see the tank until he shoots at me, and I have the crew almost at maximum capacity, I think my crew members either need glasses or are very nearsighted…

look at the video I posted 3 comments higher.

You’ll get all your answers, and you won’t like it.

i havent played much for a few days and when I’ve came back pretty much no vehicle is making noise this is stupidly bad

yeah I noticed that too I havent played this week and when I logged on earlier I don’t hear any engines but planes.

It’s becoming aggravating now…

I’m not crazy!!
I’m feling the same, no engine sound unless the other tanks (ally or enemie) is in a really close distance.

I’m feling that every hill, every building block the sound.

I have already encountered a situation when a tank pick a corner and I only ear it when a saw it.

watch the video I posted a couple comments up from yours, you’ll understand what’s happenning.

Since the last patches no ENEMY tank is audible beyond 50m, there is no modulation no spatialization . you hear or you don’t hear and it’s impossible to determine the direction. I specify that my PC(12400 with 4060 16GO and 32 GO Ram and last drivers) is up to date, the game also and my headset is a Hyper X cloud II. This makes the game totally unplayable. Figure out how to fix this problem quickly. It is outrageous to have to make this kind of report ONCE AGAIN.
STRANGELY (or not? ) this doesn’t seem to affect all players, the opponents seem to hear me coming from very far away… we end up wondering if we all have the right to have the same game.

This general subject was updated very recently: (Update 2.45.1.50)

What you describe sound more like an issue with mismatching surround settings between a mix of game/windows/headphones/other audio software. Double check your settings for sound (auto/stereo/5.1/7.1) as well as any external surround sound settings. If you are still having issues you can bug report it here (just search a bit first so that you don’t report something that is already reported and known about): (Gaijin.net // Issues)

A guide on how to report bugs can be found here: ([Navigation] Technical Knowledge Base | War Thunder Wiki)

OH thank you so much for this valuable advice. It’s not like I didn’t think to check first. As for the referred patch, I know what it claims to solve BUT I maintain that it DOESN’T WORK for me.

So even after the “fixes” where they implemented a hard cap at 215m for hearing engine sounds, still getting killed by dudes in the open at close range who are completely silent.

Why can’t we have old sound where you could hear properly vehicles around you? I’m hearing allies fine at even longer range but most ennemies make no sound at all if not in super close quarter.

It’s still completely broken. Last game i played, a spawncamping Type 90 was dead silent until it killed me…in the death cam the engine sound suddenly plays? Seriously, fix your game. It’s unplayable.

yeah I’m experiencing it everyday too, in most matches.

they’re either completely silent or their sound is so dampened down that if you’re not 200% focusing on that sound in particular everything is louder than that, even if the guy is just around the corner.

You get audible sounds at 150m away? Luxury.

I have my own engine set to minimum enemies to maximum and still hear nothing even in close quarters

Yep, issue persists

yeah it’s crazy sometimes, even poeple 20m away in the front are sometimes unrendered, sound and vehicle.

They appear when they fire at you, not seen before, thanks to keen vision…

I remember when you could see a tank 2km out without any bullshit and hearing them from 300-400m away if their engine had rpm’s high enough.

Yep, i remember that too. Triple frustrating as this seems to be a bug? Allegedly minimum range for them to always appear is 150m. And when the enemy players get their audio modeled correctly, that means a constant massive disadvantage
