EldE 98: Missile Trolley

Yes, it flies mostly on DL, in terminal it discards its nose and uses the IR seeker.

Oh MB I thought it still shares the same seeker

It does. It travels on IOG+GNSS+DL, and in terminal it enables its seeker.

ok well hopefully they don’t forget LOAL then, would be unfortunate to just have the radar point a state of the art IR seeker at your target only for it to be unable to lock a helo sitting 4 clicks away, leading to a rather awkward situation X)

Nah they wouldn’t do that…

right ? (clueless)

Not according to the source i linked. At least the early version of SLS doesn’t have it as far as i know.

Not that it does not have it. You can see that launcher lacks DL system.
It does not have any mast or even any DL looking like system.

Umkhonto

So even if the missile had it (tbh for 12 km not needed) the launch platform does not.

its still mentioned there, but the air launched one has it corrected with statements its planned for block 2

for those idiots like, what is the datalink part there cause, to me it looks like all have atennas

I know. I am following the topic :)

The big and tall masts protruding just behind the cab. They are much higher compared to normal radio antenne, allowing the to maintain communication with the missile better.

yeah no idea, cause the SLM has 2 of those

Iirc one of them is for missile communication, other for communication with radar/control vehicle, but I might be wrong.
Dont ask me which is which.

After looking at some pictures

It sseems the slightly bigger one is the between vehicle DL. Or so I assume, they look the same.
Previous version also lacked it, so I guess that’s that

Well, lacked might not be the best word, as the other Mas is there, just not complete.

noa whats the point of adding the Python-4 in a ground launched platform like the spyder sr that does not have a radar and it just uses the electro-optical sensor to lock the IR missile to planes and for the derby to be used there it needs a static radar completly dechated from the main vehicle (gaijin sees this as a problem) the SR with just Python-4 and without any radar would be a lot inferior compared with the ELDENHET 98 that have a phased array radar and a fifth gen IR missile (Python-4 is a four gen missile), the worth and best choice here is the Spyder AIO that is completly autonomous with an AESA radar, Python-5 and Derbys, gaijin would just add the Python-4 to the jets we have in the tree.

Because we have yet to see how these IRIS-Ts are going to have their seekers modeled yet

huh? i cannot understand how the Python-4 (which is a 4 gen IR) is related to the IRIS-T (which is a 5 gen IR) Python-4 have less range, worst IRCCM, no Datalink, no LOAL. soo… your answer just confused me a lot

I do like how the general reaction to this outside this forum has been “Oh, only 12km range? While the Pantsir does 20km? And we still have to deal with Kh-38MTs? Whats the point then…”. If this really doesn’t come with a better missile, its going to be DoA. That and “what is everyone else getting?” So far we know China is getting something and Sweden is. Doesnt seem all that great.
