Egret class sloop, HMS Egret L75 thread

This was meant to be posted around two - three weeks & not on the days of the update, even than most things wouldn’t change when everything is set in stone. (Unfortunately this is a bit of a rant, as will be a few other threads I’ll make soon, it was meant to be a massive rant post in the update section)

Screenshot from Rowan’s stream:

First off, what’s with gaijin & naval classifications? Even then TT placement… it’s rated a destroyer which is extremely confusing when they were a Sloop/ Frigate (post war for Pelican F86), then 90% of the time frigate type warships generally end up in the coastal TT over the bluewater TT, so this begs the question of why a 20kt vessel is rated a destroyer over a frigate? (I guess this also confirms for future that sloops will be bluewater for Britain over Coastal, especially if we get the famous ones like Amethyst F116 that fought along riverine regions in 1949). Funny that we get frigates/sloops for bluewater rated destroyers while we also get destroyers rated as frigates in coastal…

Next comes armament why only six 4" cannons? It’s now just a slower Hunt class Escort Destroyer & Even slower Abdiel class Minelayer (why yes not a bloody cruiser), all of those also have superior LAA & tertiary equipment like torpedoes & mines. Where’s the more unique look of eight 4" cannons? You might as well just re-rate the Abdiel to a minelayer so the DM is crap & stick it at 4.3 over adding this Sloop to 4.3 with just six cannons. If it had eight cannons it would be more unique. (Shimakaze aft turret all over again, just this time with less backlash).

Still, the model is pretty, it get two forward Hedgehog mortars, something the British don’t see since the Town class (1940) Destroyers (gods Wickes class for USA when?), LAA is well terrible with two single 20 mm autocannons & any inclose threat will be a challenge to deal with, with just one per side & the bloody parallax of the mast to cannons under 200 metres, it will suck somewhat on large maps due to speed but will be able to return fire effectively. I look forwards to playing this sloop in 15h (update will come out while at work).

E, also this little bit I forgot to add, small CC Adarvik has recently released a video on HMS Auckland L61 although stand in was HMS Clape L71 since it was made prior to the update.

I love the Egret-class sloops, I even made a suggestion for the HMS Auckland a little while ago, but the addition of the Egret in this specific fit feels weird, only gaining two 20mm Oerlikons for the removal of a 1/4 of her 4-inch gun armament. This would be fine if she and other sloop classes were placed in the Coastal tree, where even the lighter armament of 6x2 4-inch guns would be very good, but as you said, in the Bluewater tree she’s in affect just another Hunt-class.

Another thing to mention is that the UK’s (and others) Coastal tree is missing a third line, which would provide a great area for these vessels to go into without further crowding the Bluewater lines, whose early ranks should be filled with the missing DD classes we still do not have in game, like the Cr-class and Q-class, not sloops.

Could Gaijin be placing these ships in the Bluewater tree due to the fact that the Royal Navy thought of sloops as slower Destroyers without torpedoes? This would mean that the Black Swan-class sloops (funnily enough I also have a suggestion for HMS Black Swan Herself) among others will also be placed oddly, as they also have 3x2 4-inch guns, identical to the Egret as she will appear in game, but with further AA and DCs, limiting further additions due to the fact that there is not enough room in the tree for all of them.

They might simply be worried that the Coastal Tree might be too good, and that all the naval players would switch to Coastal instead of Bluewater overnight! (/s).
