EE-9 Cascavel TORC30
The vehicle’s history :
The EE-9 Cascavel TORC30 was basicly an joint-venture between the companies ARES and Equitron, the vehicle was used as some sort of testbed for the TORC 30 turret designed by ARES and Brazilian army (CTEX) in the modernized hull of the EE-9 Cascavel made by Equitron, The vehicle appeared in LAAD 2019, it was shown to have the capability to engage both ground and air targets (mainly against drones, with the use of ABM ammunition). However, the Brazilian army in the past already concluded that it was inadequate the use of such autocannon in the Cascavel platform, in the end no one was interest in acquiring the vehicle…
Basic characteristics:
The EE-9 Cascavel TORC30 is a 6x6 light vehicle with a crew of three that has access to a series of modern electronics like LRF, LWS, Thermals, two autonomous day and night observation systems (one for the commander and the other for the gunner) and it features the Hunter Killer capacity.
The TORC30 Turret:
Spoiler
The TORC30 is a national Unmanned Turret System made by ARES, it is 2 axis gyro-stabilized (azimuth and elevation), it is armored with thin STANAG 4569 level 2 plates at various angles to give it enough protection against 7,62x39mm caliber machine gun. The turret is modular, it allows the mount of the REMAX 3 (that is fitted with a .50 machine gun and thermals) on the top of the turret, it gives the gun a depression and elevation of - 5º a + 85º, also the turret can store 2 magazines with a capacity of 150 and 50 30mm bullets respectively.
Armaments/Firepower:
Spoiler
The EE-9 Cascavel TORC30 was armed with the Rheinmetall MK30-2/ABM of 30mm, It has a MAG Coaxial 7.62×51 machine gun with a capacity of 500 rounds , it is able to mount the REMAX 3 (national gyro-stabilized gun station for machine guns) with .50 machine gun. In addition it has access to eight smoke grenades dischargers in the back of the turret and in case it’s fitted with the REMAX 3 it will get access to more four smoke grenades dischargers.
REMAX 3:
Spoiler
The REMAX 3 is national gyro-stabilized remotely controlled weapons station for 12.7 mm and 7.62 mm machine guns that was developed based on Brazilian Army requirements through a partnership between ARES and CTEx (Army Technological Center ). The REMAX 3 that is used on the TORC30 is fitted with a .50, it has a depression/elevation of -20/+60, it can do 360 degrees, it has a Maximum speed ± 56’/s (both axes), it has access to a number of features/optronics like Thermals (8-12 μm) (D = 5,5 km / R = 2 km / I = 2 km) and also it has access to 4 smoke launchers.

Armor/Protection:
Turret:
The TORC30 is made with thin NATO STANAG 4569 level 2 which offers some protection against small firearms, mainly 7,62 x 39mm.
Hull :
The EE-9 Cascavel TORC30 hull is made with bimetal steel, which offered an improved protection to weight ratio compared to standard steel, the Bimetal armor offered around 1.8 times the effective thickness of an equivalent homogeneous plate against .50 and 1.5 times against 7.62 mm ammunition, meaning the Cascavel had an effective homogeneous thickness of 28.8 mm at the front and 15.3 mm at the sides and rear against 7.62 mm fire, meanwhile it had effective homogeneous thickness of 24 mm at the front and 12.75 mm at the sides and rear against .50 ammunition.
- Front (upper hull plates): 16 mm
- Sides: 8.5 mm
- Rear: 8.5 mm
- Top: 6.5 mm
- Floor: 6.5 mm
Engine:
The EE-9 Cascavel TORC30 hull was modified to allow the 6 Cylinders Electric Engine Mercedes-Benz OM906 LA with 260 hp at 2,200 rpm. The engine allows the vehicle to reach a maximum speed of 100 km/h with an autonomy of 700 km.
