World War 1-
At the outbreak of war all armored cruisers of the 1st Light Division were assigned to hunt down the German ships Goeben and Breslau in the Mediterranean. After these two German ships escaped to Ottoman ports in Constantinople, Edgar Quinet was transferred to the Austro-Hungarian coast. Here she would participate in blockading the Adratic Sea until the end of 1914. On January 8th, Edgar Quinet with the rest of the 1st Light Division carried French mountaineers to occupy the Geek Island of Corfu. For the remainder of the war, she was only used for security purposes.

Post War-
After the war Edgar Quinet remained in the Mediterranean to observe the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the Greek-Turkish War. She took part in saving survivors of the great fire of Smyrna in 1922. Around the mid 1920s she was converted to a training ship. Once again, the ship was upgraded to hold seaplanes in 1929. However, during a training trip on January 4th, 1930, she ran aground off the coast of Algeria. She sank five days later and was eventually broken up and sold for scrap from 1941-1944.

A +1 from me! More early French cruisers are always a plus in my book. Especially considering how so very “Steampunk” they tend to look.
