Aircraft history:
Spoiler
The history of the Su-35 for Algeria actually starts in Egypt with them having purchased 24+ Su-35s back in 2019, with majority of them having been built in 2020. With these being ready for delivery to the Egyptian air force in 2021. But after tests conducted by the Egyptian air force with the Rafale and Su-35 it was being reported they had found limitations on the Su-35s radar, also with threat with sanctions from the US with the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) program would end up leading to Egypt cancelling its Su-35 order. With the 20+ Su-35 airframes now without owners being stored at the Komsomolsk-na-Amure airport in Russia’s far east, the search for a new customer would start with countries like Iran and Algeria being linked to buying these. With it being reported that Algeria had agreed to order 24 Su-35s in late 2024, with the majority if not all of the ex Egypt Su-35s would be taken over by Algeria. Although alot of details of this purchase are still secret or still unknown with Algeria not having done any official statement on their Purchase of the Su-35, the first Su-35s in Algeria would be spotted on satellite imagery in March 2025 at the Oum Bouaghi Air Base. Now being seen carrying the same gray/dark gray camo as the Egyptian Su-35s but now featuring Algerian air force decals, additionally we would get video confirmation in February 2026 of the Su-35 in Algerian service with two units flying in formation sporting Algerian air force decals. As of now it is still unknown how many Su-35s have been delivered to Algeria with at least 2 maybe 3 having been seen, as there has been no official statement or any images of a larger group together at an air base or in the air.
