Aircraft history:

Spoiler

Algeria’s history with the MiG-29 starts in 1999 with Algeria ordering the MiG-29 from a joint Belarusian and Russian or just a Belarusian contract depending on the source for 31 MiG-29s. With deliveries starting the same year in 1999 with 16 being delivered, followed by 11 in 2000, 2 more in 2001 and the final two being delivered in 2002 to Algeria. With the MiG-29s having been bought under a trade in arrangement in exchange for a 120 older MiG-21s with Beltechexport hoping to refurbish the MiG-21s and resell them to other African countries. With all the MiG-29s being assigned to the 3rd fighter wing comprising of the 152th 153rd and 193rd fighter squadrons at the Bousfer air force base at the coast of the Mediterranean sea. With Algeria starting to retire these old MiG-29s in the 2020 after the delivery on the newer MiG-29M/M2 9.41SM/47SM and being left with a surplus of MiG-29s in 2024 it was reported that Algeria had started donating their legacy MiG-29 9.13 fighters to Sudan instead of just keeping them in storage.
