Dunkerque discussion

Dont worry the strasbourg have already received the APCBC shell on the dev serv

Well it’s not gonna magically fix all the problem these ships have… it’ll still suffer from easy ammo blowing up, excessive flooding and fragile turrets…

But, at least, now when you’ll shoot at something, you won’t feel like your throwing big nerf gun bullets at your target.

That’s good to know thanks!

Dunkerque and Strasbourg w/buff, few decent naval strike aircraft, and fast destroyers for point grab. Not a bad time to be a baguette lover. And with both the Dunkerque sisters in game, we can wishfully expect the Richelieu or Algiere as the next French ships.

Very much looking forward to Jean Bart as well, though the seemingly complete lack of VT shells for her AA armament is a little disappointing…

The live server shell looks like this,

so nothing changed from the dev.

So, I try to find something that can prove Dunkerque & Strasbourg to empty it’s upper shell room and magazine, but actually found worst evidence.

Yeah it seems both stage needs to be filled to fire all the guns…
But I do wonder, as Richelieu got it’s reloading gear modified, they don’t change their reload system to load all eight gun from first&second stage of shell room and magazine? Is shell room explosion inevitable fate of French battleships?

Shell room detonation is an arbitrary artificial nerf to ships with high shell rooms anyway, it shouldn’t happen to begin with. We’ve proven authoritatively that it didn’t happen and wasn’t possible in reality. Just need the snail to understand that and fix their game design.

Well it’s purposely introduce to decrease the kill time of each ship than real life(which took at least hours to paralyze ‘only’, and took even day to sink without finishing torpedo), so I don’t mind about shell room explosion exist in-game.

But not dividing shell room that can divide is different story, so I’m more concerned on this. Especially as French fast battleships not only having shell room near waterline but also magazine.

I am very pessimistic on Richelieu class because they have almost the same arrangement as Dunkerque albeit having everything scaled up. They share the exactly same weakness as Dunkerque, such as weak frontal bulkhead and the large hole under the barbettes allowing fragments to rain down from above into ammunition spaces.

I find Dunkerque to be quite survivable if you mantain distance personally. And with the new shells, it’s much easier to do.

Yeah i think the same and especially with an angle and even better with the strasbourg

I would say that because of that, it’s difficult to use it to cap point since you don’t want to be too close or charge in bow first but… to be honest, it’s more the point capping system that’s the problem here.

Well well well…

Dunkerque, Strasbourg, and Richelieu now has subdivided ammunition rooms on dev server.

Half ammo will now empty the rooms close to the waterline.

Thanks for the heads up.

So, what’s the reload for Richelieu ?

Technically speaking, the ammunition and shell rooms were split on different levels for each half turret for redundancy. However, since I don’t think the game can assign “half turrets” to specific ammo room, this is the second best way to implement this.

In the previous implementation, losing all your ammo for a specific turret thanks to the detonation of one shell room is a poor reflection of the intended redundancy of this historical design.

1.8 rpm :D
