Duct Tape SAMs

I’m going to keep it real here, I have a weird obsession with “duct tape” SAMs, or at least that’s what I call them. It’s just so funny to see a traditional AAM strapped to the back of some truck with no protective container or anything else.

Anyways here’s a photo dump of my favorites for anyone like me

I was actually just looking at stuff like this the other day and I found some really cursed stuff.

  • SP-Hawk - 3x Hawk surface-to-air missiles (Mach 2.4, 45-50km engagement range) on a M727, but the project was dropped in 1971 (from Wikipedia, I can’t find much information on it rip…). It probably looked something like this:

M727-Hawk-hatzerim-1

  • MIM-14 - There was a mobile launcher prototype for the Nike Hercules (>4.0M, 140km):

The M727 hawk launchers are always goofy because the poor drivers are going to get melted if there’s an aircraft behind them lol

I’ve never seen that mobile Nike launcher before, looks really interesting. Thanks for the share!

dont forget the PASARS

You’re not alone

My fav is probably the NASAMS High Mobility Launcher, a Humvee that can fire AIM-120 and AIM-9X in service with Norwegian armed forces

What’s the name of this one? Looks interesting.

Is it a specific variant? I thought most Spyders have tubes like this

Ngl after I found that Hercules launcher (I couldn’t find a picture of it originally), I’ve been wanting to find some more crazy launchers and here’s some I found:

Great Britain:

  • This is just on a trailer, but I think it just looks goofy:

Poland:

  • Newa SC - Quad S-125s on a T-55 chassis:

USSR:

  • 2K11 Krug - This thing looks like it should be called “Krug”:

Now this… this is beautiful

For anyone who wants more info on the R-73ER the real name of the vehicle is the ALR-4M, it is quite possibly only held together by gum underneath someone’s shoe and a few prayers

Im surprised I haven’t come a crossed this while looking for additions for my SPAA thread. Wish it was AIO.
