After finishing the second half of the star in air realistic, I subscribe everything you said. It certainly wasn’t faster than arcade but I got equivalent progress chilling with an IL-2 while bombing one or two bases and doing one or two kills than in many of the arcade games where I ended at the highest positions of the team with a +10 kill count. Given how well rewarded kills are, I may even try some fighters for next star. It looks doable, at least at 3.3 - 3.7, where there seems to be a lot of unskilled players (and many TKers… !).
By the way, with what I was doing in the realistic games, i.e close to nothing, I surprisingly ended at the top 3 of my team most of the time, which makes me rethink what I always thought about skill in realistic, haha. It reinforces however my opinion on how unfairly treated are arcade players in terms of progression both in events and spading.
actually it does. with mouse aim, it only gets ~30 degrees of AoA, but with full-real controls, it can get to >60, plus it has such good thrust, it can climb almost vertically with full-real controls, the instructor limits the plane way too much.
Decided to go and use metaplane for some event grinding in SB. F4U-4B.
That thing is just plain wack.
Also -
@KhorneFlakez1337 come join us in sim! Don’t need HOTAS - MKB works just fine. It’s viable even for furball dogfights, be it in 109, spitfire, f4u-4 or ki-61!
Back-up your controls and give mine a try. You’ll have fun at 3.0-5.7 BR range. Beware 6.0+
Currently it feels the 4.7-5.7 bracket is the liveliest. Presumably due to rank 3 req.
I have it fully stock, is it worth spading out for the event? I remember there was a time after they bumped it up to 13.0 it was constantly full uptiered and clapped by top tier planes so i just left it alone
I enjoy it, it’s quite relaxing/low-effort. Good to mix in when grinding out events. But it’s most certainly all about the Fakour 90. Do what you can to get that unlocked. Just load enough fuel to get up and slinging F90s as quick as possible and rinse and repeat. You can catch AIM120 slingers off-guard, because they’ll wait to get pretty close, while your F90s were already on their way from upwards of 60-80KM out (you see I caught the F2000 offguard in the above video). A bonus now is a bunch of the jets it would face during some of the earlier air events this year are no longer seen, since the introduction of 14.3.
Air events are way more exhausting to grind because of the extremely monotonous ARB gameplay loop
It’s way easier to grind the points in ASB and AAB, but you would have to enjoy those modes to make the grind less exhausting. I will probably end up just bombing in ASB because grinding in ARB is becoming unbearable.
From my pov your observations made during a grinding event are just the logical result of their design: These events attract masses of non-pilots with a grinding “whatever it takes” approach. So the already low skill on average gets even worse during grinding events.
You might choose your planes wisely. The current game play in Air RB is a mess and at 3.3/3.7 you run into constant (full) uptier loops…
The grinding progress is strongly connected to your plane/nation & server choice and the daytime.
If you want to relax:
Play your prop battles on the CIS server and use your JP B7A2. Why?
The MM on the CIS server tends to create “auto-win” lobbies for JP teams. I had yesterday a 90% WR and today ~85% - so you can use some of your 10 victory wagers too. -Even in full uptiers you can relax as your GER/US, US/USSR or GER/US/USSR opponents get stomped in ~90% of your matches.
It gets tricky if you have GER or USSR in your team and/or face the UK - otherwise totally relaxing.
9 x 60 kg kills a single base even in full uptiers - and dropping the 10th bomb on another base gives you a mission score of 500 points (465 full base + 35 slight damage on another) without too much effort.
Getting additional mission score depends on your skill - and mainly on the quality of your team - if they are too good, the opposing team is dead before you have the chance to get (additional) mission score.
But - to be fair - the downside of having way too good teams is obvious:
Most matches end (way too early) after a few minutes because the majority of players are unable to follow a basic rule for mission score events: Keep one or 2 enemy bombers alive and farm ai planes and pillboxes.
Thanks for the advice. I did the second star today in around 3h with the I-180S (3.0). I certainly got some uptiered games where I did nothing and died pretty fast to 3.7-4.0 planes, but in general I’ve been able to get 2-3 kills in the first 5 minutes of most games. In arcade it would have taken me more or less the same time to get the star but doing 8+ kills per game.
Yeah, it’s important, for those of us who primarily play other gamemodes, to study what you’ve unlocked and find something for the event that interests you. For the first star, I got it done in a couple of hours playing Hunter F.6 and having a blast with the buffed SRAAMs, and taking out some small pill boxes on the side. So it took 18 short games to get it done:
Which is less games than it is taking @Real_K_Soze in his B7A2 (assuming his 22/24 game sessions in B7A2 since the event has started is him grinding the event). That’s the other thing to account - higher BR modifiers, and all that good stuff.
Being new, along with this also being the first time I tried an event and understood what I was supposed to do (event UI and goals are terrible in this game), I can say with full honesty that this has made me never want to engage with Air RB, ever again. I find it hard to believe that anyone enjoys the excessive tedium or the painful comportment of aligning these wobbling, drunk aircraft. It’s amazing that anyone ever lands a hit on anything in this mode.
I’d probably be having a better time if the goal for each 2 days wasn’t 35,000 and was instead something more like 1,000. Or just a requirement to play 5 matches. Then I could at least concentrate on trying to enjoy them and learn the proper way to play, instead of racing to scavenge points. The fact that I have to do that means I’m also targeted by sweatier, older players who want to use me as their easy points, so they won’t have to do the event. It’s been a truly miserable experience. I considered getting a discounted pack to help, but realized I was having such a bad experience that it would really only make it worse. No, thanks.
Did the star today in 90min with the Ayit (lil luck with downtiers). Easy to do, if you know what to do.
Fight first, and when all rtb, ground pound and kill AI planes. Focus on pillboxes, trucks and light tanks, because they give way more points.
For those who aren’t that good at aiming, choose a single gunpod with ground belt.
