History and design:
The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV / Humvee) its an American light 4x4 vehicle produced by AM General. Under Israeli designation for Hamer = Humvee; and Orev = Raven (the name for IDF dedicated TOW ATGM carriers).
Israel began receiving the Humvees from the United States in the late 1980s and early 1990s, as a replacement for their olders M38A1 and M151A2 jeeps. Not only for logistical and transport purposes, but also as a replacement for their Jeep Tank Hunters squadrons that also used the M38A1 and M151A2 with the M220 TOW launchers.

The modification of the humvees anti-tank entered service in the IDF in the early 1990s. Using the base of the Hamer Siyur, a humvee without armour, roof nor doors (but hey at least it kept the windshield right?); used mainly for recon missions with a machine-gun or granade launcher mounted.

Combat service:
The Hamer Orev saw its first and most intense combat history in the South Lebanon Security Zone (1990 - 2000), being used for ambushes against Hezbollah forces, to destroy fortified positions and to support IDF/SLA (South Lebanon Army) outposts. Also it provided covering fire during the IDF withdrawal from Lebanon (2000).

During the Second Intifada (2000 - 2005) the Hamer Orev was used for urban combat against the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), destroying fortifications, sniper nests and covering the infantry during streets assaults.

During the Gaza operations the Hamer Orev participated in: Operation Summer Rains/Autumn Clouds (2006), Operation Cast Lead (2008 - 2009), and Operation Protective Edge (2014).
After 2018, the Hamer Orev went into reserve, and replaced by modern tank hunter vehicles and weapons, like the SPIKE. But the Humvee its still used today by the IDF but for different roles, like recon, logistic or transport missions (Israel ordered in 2025 a $ 150M Humvee fleet)
