Wouldn’t this mean it can also carry GPS bombs?

i like your imagination but there have lightning laser pod on another side
becouse there have no the under fuselage pilon that make it lost 1 weapon pilon for laser pod
There are many other advantages as well; RTAF uses it as a testbed for various systems because there are no restrictions on modifications—they can implement changes immediately without needing approval from the manufacturer’s country.
