Don’t make the same mistake with infantry, Gaijin

Are we really ready to have infantry in the game? I don’t think so. We still have tons of problems in other game modes, and especially with servers and those insane grinds players have to go through stuff that eats up most of their free time after work.

I’m not saying it’s a terrible idea, but why add an “Enlisted-style” mode to War Thunder??? Huh!?
If I wanted to play with a whole squad getting in my way, or just be some random soldier on a battlefield, I’d just download Enlisted or any other game that’s actually meant for that.

If it were just one single soldier controlled by the player, maybe that would be interesting. But nope, they’re repeating the same mistake again with a whole squad that runs around like headless chickens, can’t follow a single command, exposes their position, and worse… exposes the commander.

It makes zero sense to add another grind system when players can’t even finish all the nations we already have. Now imagine a new player downloading the game instead of 2 modes, or 3, or 4… they now get 5 DIFFERENT GAME MODES, each with its own trees, packs, and painful, exhausting progression systems.

Helicopters are already enough. Tanks are already enough. SHIPS are already enough. PLANES are already enough… and now we’re gonna grind weapons? armor? scopes? or whatever else you guys decide to force us to spend another 5 hours a day on just to unlock the bare minimum of “something new”?

Honestly, I’m worried about War Thunder. You guys could be fixing battleratings, fixing armored tech trees that barely even work, fixing the awful coastal fleet research system, or fixing the completely random armor behavior on tanks and ships.

But you want to add infantry? I feel like this is just a smokescreen to pull attention away from what actually matters. As a veteran player, I feel like a complete clown for still believing there would be meaningful improvements like the ones you made to the economy before.

I support this company with all my heart, but sweeping glass under the rug and showing us a shiny radioactive-blue lake to distract us isn’t gonna solve the real problems the game has.

The possible implementation of infantry in the game was honestly the BIGGEST SLAP IN THE FACE a community has ever taken.

With so many reports being posted every day on the forums, with so many issues being shown even in the OFFICIAL streams, gameplay bugs, performance problems, armor not working right, server issues, you name it…

And instead of fixing ANY of the serious problems we’ve been reporting for years, the company most likely spent MONTHS and a LOT of money making this “infantry BETA” that literally looks like a straight COPY-PASTE from Enlisted into War Thunder.

Instead of fixing the stuff that actually matters.

What a slap in the face, man… and honestly, I hope the community realizes how obvious this is.

This isn’t fair…
Thanks all support, it’s all.

I’m asking everyone to share their opinions about the topic itself, not about a nickname that comes from a Japanese phrase said in tons of anime. Please stay focused on the discussion my chosen nickname has absolutely no relevance to the debate here.

AI infantry is a good decision, though. It greatly improves game balance.
Vehicles are run by multiple crew. This has a few options on how this can be controlled. For one, each player controls one crew member, like games like Squad. But do you really want to have to rely on your War Thunder teammates to work together to control a vehicle? Have to rely on randoms for even things as basic as driving? And if so, honestly just play Squad or some other milsim. Gaijin can’t really compete with established games particularly when it comes to map sizes and servers, so it doesn’t make sense to do so.
Alternatively, a single player controls a vehicle like in War Thunder or Enlisted. Much simpler and ofc something they’ve already done.
Then comes the issue of balancing. A tank is obviously a lot stronger than an infantry. Let alone if the options are to spawn in one single infantry or an entire tank crew- very few people would choose the latter. But spawning a full infantry squad, well now you have multiple lives to try to kill the tank, and you can carry a variety of weapons across your squad to deal with various threats (tanks, infantry, etc.).
And of course as previously mentioned there’s the issue of servers. Gaijin’s servers just can’t really handle the number of players required for a full infantry battle, bots fill space and give you more to shoot at.

So in conclusion this new mode is basically modern Enlisted and using the same squad spawn system just makes sense as it lets the game fill a relatively unique niche of arcade-sim, between basic FPSs (e.g. Battlefield) and proper milsims (e.g. Arma)

As for why this wasn’t added in Enlisted instead… IDK. Perhaps because War Thunder has more resources available for development, or they want to keep Enlisted as a WWII-only game.

They should remove the AI and make it PvP only. Maybe the servers aren’t powerful enough —who knows? But I’m not going to play it if it’s the same as Enlisted.

This. The game has so many issues that are highlighted time and time again which are completely ignored by the devs. The introduction of infantry is simply going to mean that any hope of existing problems (flawed volumetric damage model, poor map design, constant uptiering, worthless matchmaker, etc, etc, etc) being addressed go completely out the window because the focus will be on getting the infantry side of things implemented properly. Thanks but no thanks. Hopefully enough people vote with their feet to make Gaijin realise the player base are fed up with being ignored. Before anyone says “but it’s a free game”, many already pay for the privilege of playing this broken game and as such should be able to expect better from a developer.

I don’t want to have to come here to the forum of a game that was originally EXCLUSIVE to tanks, planes, ships, and helicopters just to complain about more BUGS, server issues, broken armor plates, or rifle ammo not working properly all because you decided to shove an “Enlisted” mode into War Thunder.

I want THEM TO LISTEN TO US MORE.
I want the veteran players, the ones who actually care about the real state of the game, to finally be HEARD not ignored in favor of the “New Guys Order” crowd who think they know more than someone with over 10,000 hours just on a secondary Steam account.

I want them to fix the old problems, fix the things the community has been complaining about for YEARS.
Make the armor actually work, because half the time it feels like it doesn’t even exist on your vehicle or ship.
Do whatever it takes to HELP the community rather than ignoring it.

I don’t want to see Enlisted a game that is basically dead with just a few hundred players being shoved into a stable game like War Thunder. I don’t accept a game concept that clearly won’t behave the way you’re imagining it will.

We already have enough issues with the game modes War Thunder currently has.
Adding another mode that might break all the others is not helping anything.

Anything but fixing the game. They are also cannibalizing Enlisted’s playerbase so rip that game. Super intelligent gaijin move.

You will have to grind from primal era)

The game is Gaijin’s; they made it and own it. They can do whatever the hell they want with it. People like you way back complained about tanks, which were first introduced; many complained, claiming this was a plane game. Gaijin repeated the same statement over the years. It is a war game, nothing more and nothing less. Not this or that.

Years later, people complained about Jet’s, helicopters, ships, and now it’s infantry. That’s your guy/Gal’s problem, you think the game is this and that, and any answer we give you will never be enough cause you are hell bent on believing it isn’t.

What should be concerning is not infantry but the fears of aim-bottling getting worse.

It really looks like that’s what’s happening. They see the playerbase dropping on Enlisted, and now they want to shove a solid, stable War Thunder playerbase into “enjoying” a gameplay style that’s INFESTED with bots that have the IQ of a worm, while they barely care about the real problems the game has right now.

Or perhaps Gaijin purposely had Enlisted made as a test bed?.
Ever thought they did that on purpose? Look at Crusine Royal, they tested the idea of Infantry in that April Fools of a game, before releasing Enlisted, it was intentional.

Look at Enlisted, same thing, it’s to provide information.

How about you join their team and walk into a private boardroom meeting with this genius idea:
‘Let’s make a pop-up ad that opens every time a War Thunder match ends, promoting ENLISTED.
The WT players are gonna love it, and they’ll totally revive our dead game.

Wow, that’s crazy, it’s almost as if they’re using the larger player base to get feedback on Enlisted on how they will implement them into a game that’s called and I quote “WAR THUNDER.”

Actually, it was originally exclusive to aircraft. did you complain about the addition of tanks, helicopters, and ships to this combined-arms game as well?

elitist ah, plus I don’t think crashing out and pointing fingers is a good way to get heard…
