Does the Chaff on the A32A actually have any use? ARB/GRB

I’m curious, Chaff at 9.3 feels like a useless thing to carry with you.

Does it actually protect against any missiles/Radars so its harder to hit you?

Talking about both Ground RB and Air RB here.

Because it sure doesn’t protect against IR missiles…

Im not sure about the radar jam, but in most cases i think its useless. Most of the time you face stingers which only can be affected by flares.

There are a few planes you can see that can carry radar missiles, the Mig-21’s can carry R-3R’s, though they are basically 9B/E’s in terms of manouverability so can be easily avoided, or the F-8E with Aim-9C’s, the F-4C with Aim-7D’s, or even the S.O.4050 Vautour IIN (late) with its mighty Matra 511’s but that’s about it. Tbh all of those missiles you can avoid by manouvering, and are short range, so in air RB it is basically useless apart from a few very specific matchups. In ground, i don’t believe there are any AA platforms that use radar to purely guide missiles, all are either IR or manually guided with help from the radar, and many of them have IRST as well as the radar, so i do not think chaff has any real use in ground RB.

Soo, its basically useless…

Not quite.

At its BR, you will also face radar controlled SPAAG’s, and here it should help. IR guided SAM’s will however be more dangerous…

Soo Self propelled guns?

Come again?

Self propelled Anti-Air guns with radar tracking?

Shilka/Enisey, M163, etc.
