OK just out of question regardless of whether or not the tank uses DU we are all in agreement it does say Heavy armor upgrades to the hull and turret in these packages and documents?
And that’s the main issue. It’s ambiguous and not clearly defined. In several places of the documents so there is no singular unquestionable conclusion.
problem is that even if it say “SUPER DUPER IMPROVEMENT” gaijin wouldnt even consider because they want actual number
the reason why DU in the question here is because im pretty sure gaijin maybe would consider it because there are info regard on its protection in that manners, so thats why people report about DU - because there are numbers for it
This is my issue with it If we don’t know the numbers but we know its an upgrade of the previous generations just add enough armor to make it a balanced plate. Make it enough that the top rounds can go through it, but older darts can’t.
This makes sense, since the M1A1HA (Heavy Armor) was the first version of the Abrams with DU armor, while the M1A1HC was an upgrade with a better version of DU armor. On the other hand, there would be the Australian M1A1AIM, which had its DU armor removed and fitted with a conventional but modern one.
“no number no upgrade”
it has been like that for a while, gaijin is scared because if they make an educate guess and up the abrams armor the RU main would cry because they cant W and click easily anymore and has to aim for weakspot
That is exactly part of the problem. Gaijin wants distinct numbers but they themselves cannot post the sources or otherwise of changes and adjustments to vehicles already in the game for the USSR and China Nations. I understand changes for balance but when you have certain vehicles underperforming when compared to others you either buff the ones underperforming or you nerf the overperforming ones. Instead they continually buff and add broken things to nations that are already so far from “Historical” that it clearly shows the intent. Meanwhile we have to try and find exact texts listing the procetion of X from X at X distance from X angle. We get to play document Gymnastics because they want the exact specification when they can look at the actual documents available and have been provided in reports and otherwise and see that there is CLEARLY improvements or upgrades over the previous models and go okay so lets increase it by X to keep it fair for a balancing prospective.
Lets be real if the Protection values of A2, A2 Sep (1,2,3) were declassified Gaijin would look at them and go NOPE thats unfair for the game. Meanwhile we get Kontact-5 defeating DM53, 829a2, and l27a1. All rounds that had been developed to perform better against the REDFOR ERA.
You are misunderstanding the point of the Parathensis. Abrams Heavy (DU armored) tank. Heavy = Descriptor = DU armored as the Heavy is being described as the Depleted Uranium Armor. Thus the CBO Report using the EXACT Descriptor of the Armor on the HULL and TURRET. Heavy = DU End of Story
They upgraded the DU armor with the M1A1 HA+, the M1A1 HC uses the same armor as the HA+.
(M1A1 HA) → (M1A1 HA+) → (M1A1 HC) → (M1A2 Block II MBT).
That’s not how deduction works.
Supposedly the HA has first generation DU armor, and the HA+ has second generation (same as the HC).
Heavy Armor = Depleted uranium armor
per NRC not just CBO

Note: This is from 1996 so the hulls getting DU in 1998+ doesn’t impact the text here where it says its only in the turret.

Their margin for reducing the armor is very small, because according to recently discovered TACOM documents, they manufactured 4 In. DU billets for DU equipped tanks, but it is unknown how they used these billets. In the old forum, someone posted a source claiming that depleted uranium encased in steel was located in front of the 4-inch turret backing plates.
How do you guys get all these documents? Also M1A1 HC and M1A1 HA different right?
Google skillz™
Nah, but just learning how google prioritizes searches and how to add specific symbols to the searches to change the results does a lot.
I personally usually start with a reverse image search if it’s something new, sometimes people here on the forum add links at the bottom of their screenshots of the documents.
This topic was brought up and already answered by the developers 3 years ago so some of the documents are linked in the official post: ( Hull Armor of the M1 Abrams ).
Then you can see what the license number is and google that licence number to find related documents.
A great tip is to add " filetype:pdf " at the end of your search because then all results you get will be pdf files.
Another tip is to use the quotation marks " " to highlight words or part of the sentence that HAS to be exactly like that in the result.
This literally just helped me find a declassified technical report on the CATTB, which I had only been able to find through Scribd with its stupid ads every 5 pages. Thank you.

not all assumptions are made equal.
Deep in the land of Mordor, in the Fires of Mount Doom, the Dark Lord Sauron forged a master Assumption, and into this Assumption he poured his cruelty, his malice and his will to dominate all life.
One Assumption to rule them all.
