I’m not an experienced player for the top tier battles. But I already noticed that sometimes, you manage to kill Western MBTs (unless its an Ariete or Challie, which don’t have the feature I’m talking about) by shooting their turret bustle with blowout panels.
Now, in some realistic Roblox game you can survive as many ammo hits as you want only until the enemy doesn’t penetrate your armored door between the ammo and the crew compartment. But it feels like this doesn’t matter in War Thunder, sometimes Abramses manage to die just if they get hit in the ammo slightly, even without penetrating those red walls in xray, which, as my top tier expert friends told me, signalize he presence of blowout panels.
I’m familiar with RNG of Soviet and American tanks of low tier, where their ammo doesn’t explode (though it could matter with Sherman(W) series, but sadly those I’ve met weren’t them). But, seriously, setting up RNG of top tier ammo racks getting destroyed at times when the tank has blowout panels, even if the armored doors are undamaged? That’s absurd to me. The tank must be able to continue the battle with one shell in his breech and hopefully some spare ones in his secondary ammo rack, or ability to replenish, or at least just being a lure for the enemy that is still able to grind through capping points.
Making it die, even if it isn’t supposed to, is just strange. Or am I wrong? Sure making it live after being hit in such a spot won’t do much, especially in those battles lasting 10 min at most, where while you’ll hopefully be replenishing at allied point you’d be dead from some light tank rat or CAS, but the fact of the vehicle having this feature having to survive an ammo rack direct hit, stands. I’m not even NATO main (yet), but I prefer realism in this area, even if it’s not as balanced (I suffer enough from bad and slow gun depression, slow traverse and reverse speed already).
Its just a game mate.
IRL getting hit in the ammo bustle is going to put the tank out of action.
Blow out panels are there to save the crew, not so they can keep on keeping on.

in game a tank is considered dead once crew cannot fully operate the tank (in rare cases it’s not a thing, with SPAAGs). Ammo explosion, fuel tank explosion, fire, or just enemy hits make them die. If the ammo blew out from the turret or just burnt out, the crew can fully operate the vehicle after that, the player shouldn’t be considered out of action.
In-game; not really
Blowoff panels don’t matter as much as not having ammo in bad places, the turret being preferable since it’s the most protected part of high tier tanks instead of the hull.
And when they do save you; it’s often annoying anyway as you’re left with only one round
Could simply be that you shot them while reloading so the door was open and the blowout panel won’t work.
Should be easy enough to test.
I’d love to test but sadly I don’t have many friends with Leopards or Abrams. Could we maybe test it together?
I also have neither Leopard nor Abrams, so we would be limited to testing on the Type 10 and Leclerc, just tell me when.
Actually went and did some testing in test drive since you can get both a leopard and Abrams with Chinese vehicles. Using DTW2 or BM42 :
The leopard worked perfectly fine, with two shots out of 20ish or so resulting in OHK, both fired from the right at a slight downward angle. I was unable to replicate the OHK at will.
On the Abrams, even hitting as little as 3 shells, every ammo shot was an OHK even without going trough the blast door.
Seems like an Abrams bug rather than yet another deliberate survivability nerf (I’m tired of suvivability nerfs boss…). Also this is a fairly recent change, I distinctly remember ammoracking an Abrams a month or two ago and it working completely fine.
I can offer you Leopards and Abramses. DM me if you want me.
blow out panels are giant meme the same way the exploding fuel on soviet/chines tanks is
its just more hand holding for us trash

You mean armored bulkhead is compromised by penetrating dart from the front.
I think it’s different in test drive. Must be normal in random and custom battles. Im going to sleep soon so maybe tomorrow?
Notice how only the tracks and .50 cal are messed up
Funny reading turret toss world champ glazers coping

are you online, sir? I am on war thunder
tank seems damaged but :
- The turret is attached to the hull still, the crew could have made it out alive, same can not be said for some other models usually having a reverse bowl turret and a hull autoloader, if you see what i mean.
- We don’t even know how it was disabled, how does it relate to blow out panels in any way ?
I would also encourage you to be careful with ongoing conflicts pictures, the mods don’t really like it
