I am just as tired of repeating this point as a lot of you likely are reading it.
The in game loadout for the MiG-29 is purely an anachronistic provisional measure prolonged indefinitely into a status quo by inertia. It is a combination of the R-73 being unavailable at the MiG-29’s time of release, and the R-27ER barely turning out to be a good enough crutch for the MiG-29 in its absence. When the R-73 finally became ready for release they were given to the MiG-29SMT but then it got sucked into the whole new ARH ecosystem and everyone just forgot the 9.12 and 9.13 existed. Now the early MiG-29s survive solely on BR reductions and a playstyle of relying entirely on the R-27ER being disproportionately potent in their present environment.
This update instead of taking the opportunity to change things it seems the devs are doubling down on this state of things by giving this placeholder loadout to the MiG-29 SNIPER. What is the point of this?
Give all the early MiG-29s their R-73s back, remove their R-27ERs, push them back up by a BR step if necessary.
Well, the Su-33 is a battle rating 13.0 airplane with this same weapons, it’s just a Squadron Vehicle, but I suppose you are afraid of the MiG-29 Sniper at battle rating 13.0 with R-27R and R-73 because it’s a Premium vehicle, or something else?
the difference is that the flankers get a massive amount of 6-8 r-27s, the mig-29 is limited to only 2 of them. And most of your kills are going to come from those 2 r27s.
This could sort of solve this question, but limiting is rather awkard for an premium vehicle in this battle rating. For comparison, the Mirage F1C-200 is at battle rating 12.0 with this similar situation, the thing is I doubt Gaijin will add an MiG-29 at battle rating 12.0.
The F1C’s sarh missile, rwr, radar and flight performance are terrible for its br, without the magic2 it would be an 11.0/10.7 plane, its not comparable to the mig-29 at all. The 12.7 mirage 2000 is a much better comparison to a mig29 with 2 r73s and r27Rs imo.
Only thing that is equal between R-60M and AIM-9L is the fact that both have all-aspect ir seeker. 9L however has significantly better resistance to flares because of narrower seeker FoV and is useful in more situations because of its significantly longer effective range. R-60M has better performance only in one condition - very close range shots. But because it’s very close range - only very oblivious player won’t see it coming and just flare it easily.
Mig29 will never be good, being limited to 2 BVR missiles blows ass. It will either sit at a BR it will club at or be at one it will be completely irrelevant. Its perfectly fine, great even 1v1 at 12.7, but ARB is not 1v1.
Only thing terrible about Su-33 is a battle rating. If you aren’t uptiered into high performance air frames with 8-12 Fox-3 missiles you are extremely effective.
