[Discussion] - Aiming Points for Salvo Firing Guided Weapons

weapon links seem to only work with gps only weapons however for the other weapons that use laser or tv for example you cant link instead you use the “link point of interest to aiming point” bind then swap and lock each target manually

I didnt even need to use the link weapon keybind for GBU-39s, it just worked.

But GNSS+SAL should work the same way.

Also haven’t been able to get it to work, and also the “normal” way to mark an SPI on the map doesn’t seem to work anymore.

Has anone gotten it to work fully?

And is this function restricted to aircraft carrying GNNS weapons only, or can all aircraft with SPI use it?

And is ther actually a way in the cockpit to see those points, or is it restricted to the map windown only?

Only with GBU-39s on the Gripen C. Gunjob cant get it to work properly either.

I seriously odubt they would add the HUD symbology unprompted :D

yeah i cant get non gnss weapons to work with it using linking

and there is no hud symbology at least not on the su30sm which im testing it on

Working great so far (I think) for GNSS only weapons. But doesnt seem to work at all for any weapon with mixed guidance types

I tested by binding the “add target point” and “link weapon …” to the same keybind, but most of the times they went for the target was when I sent the bombs with the normal release bomb keybind, if I use the salvo it only targets 2 points

I think the Link weapon keybind doesnt do anything currently

For me it slaves seeker to aimpoint.

This binding

will set tpod or a seeker to a point

I havent been able to figure out what this one does yet

I can’t test it right now but maybe you can drop GNSS weapons on aiming points without designating POI? So like cycle aim points and each time link weapon and then fire.

With pure GNSS like GBU-39s, I just set the points and press the salvo launch button.

I dont even need to touch the link weapon one.

But something like Paveway IV doesnt seem to work at all

Yes but in theory salvo should drop on all aimpoints, with “Link Weapon to Aiming Point” you could drop only on selected. (cycle through).

Ah I see.

Still cant figure out Paveway IV though so I think its either bugged or unfinished

After a restart it works now, and seems to be a nice feature - just wish it was implemented for more aircraft.

I think it would have great potential also for navigation etc.

However, what I see as shortcoming atm is that there’s no visoalisation apart from targeting equipment and map window, as far as I could see. The points are not even shown on the moving map displays, which at least for some aircraft should definitively be the case.

Can anybody check if any aircraft have symbology linked to Steerpoints, like A10C, F16C, F18s should all have it. I wonder if Gaijijn will link aimpoints with steerpoints (symbology on HSD, MFDs, HMD).

No, that was one thing I was also hoping for, but my fear was confirmed that this is not the case.

Hopefully this could be implemented in the fututure, who knows!

Generally, the trend we see could actually point that way: First we go the possibility to set SPI via the map, now twe got multiple aiming point that can even be edited - a logical nect step would be to use this symbology also for other things - but that WILL require the information also presented on other instruments / displays.

That’s one of my major gripes with how cockpits are implemented: Too many things a pilot needs to rely on are only displayed as GUI overlay, but not on any cockpit gauge, sight or HUD - which basically means that if you fly in Sim you will not be able to use that technology in any useful way.

Yes, that’s probably the case, as more detailed MFD pages, HUD and HMD symbology is added we might expect Steerpoints to be displayed in the cockpit. Same goes for ARM aiming and symbology.

I’m having a ton of problems using split racks (GBU32s etc) on the F/A-18F… It’s only dropping for the quantity of stations, not the quantity of weapons. i.e fully loaded down with GBU-38s will only drop 6-2-2 despite there being 10 munitions on the aircraft. Not tested with SDBs but no doubt they were using those in internal testing…
