Dicuss about J21A-1

The J 21 was the first aircraft of the Swedish Air Force to be equipped with a 20 mm automatic cannon. The idea of using 20 mm automatic guns on Swedish fighter aircraft dates back to the early 1940s when Sweden purchased a large number of 20 mm HS.404 automatic guns for air defense named 20 mm LvAkan m/41.The LvAkan m/41, now just known as the Akan m/41, was notorious for misfiring and running out of ammo after just 5 seconds because it could only hold a 60-round drum magazine. The autocannon is mounted in the nose of the aircraft with the empty magazine mounted on the right side (from the pilot’s eye). This variant of the Saab 21 was known as the J 21A-1.(Accoding from Wikipedia)The problem appears when in the game J21A-1 and J21A-2 both have 20mm cannons with 140 bullets each.this may be an issue of confusion over the similarity between J21A-1 and J21A-2. In fact, it was the complaint about the J21A-1’s quick ammunition run-out time (5 seconds) that later prompted people to replenish ammunition by installing a rainbow-shaped magazine containing 140 bullets.

Souce: Saab 21 – Wikipedia

Sooo, what is the purpose about this post?

To discuss the J21A-1 Specifically??

Or what?

I’m wondering about the number of 20mm bullets that the J21A-1 can possess because according to wikipedia, the J21A-1 only owns 60 20mm bullets and later increased to 140 bullets in the J21A-2 upgrade. In warthunder, both versions have 140 bullets. Maybe because this is my first time writing, I haven’t made it very clear.

I dont trust wiki for this, now not always is it unreliable but ive seen a lot of vehicle errors. Id say redo this post with actual sources instead of wiki sources.

you are right maybei dont have much experiment because this is my fist dicuss. Can you suggest me some reputable websites besides Wikipedia? Sorry if my dicuss doesnt have enough information and high reliability

Look for books written by people or request documents from either govt sites or museums. Im actually suprised @karnitin75 doesnt have them. Tbf theres is like 10 people total who actually do posts like these for sweden.

I do have access to the J21 manuals. Most of them are from the A-3 and J21RB though

The swedish aviation museum is so kind as to copying the whole manuals and ducuments for to have stored in PDF formats

Heck i even have a ingraved 20mm Akan round from karlskrona.

Its just a regular AP round
