[Development] T-34-85 (STP): A Stable Classic

I think the truth is simpler. It will either go at 6.0 or at 6.3 depending on Gaijin’s playtesting and predictions. Then however once it hits the live server and player stats come out, the new data will change the picture.

I can easily see a scenario where it debuts at 6.0 but eventually climbs to 6.3, and equally a scenario where it debuts at 6.3 and goes down to 6.0. Or the initial BR placement could just be correct. There are two things I’m sure of: 5.7 is too low and 6.7 is too high. Which of the two BRs in between is the best fit, we simply cannot know until players start using it and we get actual statistics for it.

Do we remember situation with t25? DO WE?

“It has stabiliser, he needs to go to 6.3”

Gajin removed stabiliser, tank stays at 6.3.

“And so what?”

If gajin want to add this lower than 6.3, it would be just bias, or “our statistics pulled from ( . ) shows it would be good placed, trust me bro”

Despite some of the doom-gloomers in here. The 85mm will deal with anything it faces at a 6.3BR - some tanks will require you to actually put some thought in where to aim, which is much easier when you have a stab. If I’m out there one-shotting IS-4’s frontally with 37mm APHE, you can do good things with an 85mm APHE (obviously you don’t get the benefit of spray and pray, but the shell will do good things to whatever it pens if aimed correctly - which is much easier with the stab, hence the 6.3BR will be okay).

Not according to KV-220 owners, who think their 6.0 tank isn’t competitive with firing 85mm BR-365 😉

I think the issue with the KV-220, regardless of BR, has more to do with the damage modelling.
If you take a hit anywhere frontally, from any ammunition type, the vast majority of the time you get a blacked out breach and :14 repair almost every time. It’s ridiculously off by a good deal and makes that tank almost not worth playing at all.
That’s in AB, I do not know if it does it like that in RB or Sim . . but in AB, it’s practically pointless to play now . . . BR is not the problem there . . .

Idk, I take a tank that tanks a hit with a destroyed breech everyday over one that dies when you shoot the turret or survived with more damaged done than that.

So I don’t see how that is supposed to make the tank worse.

A tank is effective because it can kill others and maybe not get shot or survive getting shot.

There’s no denying that the KV-220 is much harder to kill than a Tiger E, simply because it’s practical immune from the side from US 75mm cannons.

On Statshark it was literally the tank with the best win rate and K/D in its entire rank in (I think) August. The rank, not the BR.

Part of it is the experienced players but that’s really not all. People shoot the breech because an angled KV-220 is a tough nut to crack for even incredibly powerful guns, and even the breech shot only disables it from firing - the last time I encountered one I shot it with a Waffenträger below the barrel and the only consequence was taking out the breech.

And that was with the long 88 at a pretty short range.

T20 is with a mile distance place 1 (the very best) in terms of KD overall, so what the fuck ure talking about? If at all it would need to go even more up in BR.

And while we are at it, t34-85, all variants are among the top ranks of the 5.7 leaderboard and the Chinese TT is the first place of all TT 5.7, russian one is place 3, right after the sherman (it would even win by RP to the sherman)

KV220 is still by far the best tank around. WIth a KD of woping 2,6 last month.

And its broken because it has more armor then anythink else, so much that u almost cant kill him when he is angled a bit, even if u manage to pen, you will often not even kill one of the 6 crew. it has better armor then IS-2 at 6.7 with a gun that reloads twice as fast and has an absurd amount of TnT filler + an absurd normalisation against angles and its capped so it loses way less penetration on distance (thats why everyone should use that shell in the 85mm guns)

It needs a new model, I think.

That would do nothing, 100mm armor that is even slopet at the front and a turred that is “small” with a gun breech that is “hughe”…

KV-220 is fairly balanced in itself. Most of it’s K/D can be attributed to the combination of experienced players using it and it being the very exact type of tank that a below average player will have the most trouble against.

I must admit it was absolutely overpowered at 5.7 though, it was my favourite SL grinder back then.

It is rare so many people simply don’t know how to deal with it and it’s not very intuitive to kill. You essentially have to know about the breach weakspot. Otherwise you are screwed.

The MG turret also works, but for some reason it loves to eat shells with no damage, you have to be very precise while firing at it.

Generally though purely parameter wise it’s not much better than Tiger E. It obviously has more armor, but lacks the penetration, TNT filler and has a lower top speed.

Honestly i would say these tanks are on similar level on the condition that the player facing the 220 knows about it’s weaknesses.

I know how to deal with it. It still shouldn’t survive a long 88 penetration to the breech area with zero crew casualties.

In the past cupola shots used to work, but during this recent event I’ve met a few and cupola shots were no longer reliable. So breech + flank is how I’ve been dealing with them.

Why do you aim at the breach with long 88?

It survives pretty much all frontal turret penetrations with APHE (unless you have a round that can cause overpressure, then you may have a shot, although still unreliable), because the frontal turret armor causes the shell to detonate, while the breach eats all of the spall that lacks penetration to go through it.

Solid shot and APDS on the other hand work really well against it, as they don’t desintegrate after penetraing the initial armor layer at the turret front.

That’s why you only go for turret if your only goal is to disable the breach. Most of the time this is the way to go, but long 88 is an exception as it simply has enough pen to just pen straight through it’s hull even when perfectly angled.

With long 88 you should avoid hitting the turret and just fire at it’s upper front plate, most of the time it will result in a one shot or leaving the tank at the brink of death.

No other option was available at the time. Flanders, so its tall head was peeking behind a ridge.

In theory yes but tbh with KV 220 I’ve learned to simply not trust the damage model, since shells often seem to trip up on something. Even the JT Pz.Gr.43 has occasionally bounced for me with these guys. Sometimes it works as intended but they are extremely trolly.

again… no. KV 220 is not balanced at all.

Just because a tank has a high number on one site means nothing. Especially if it’s a rare event vehicle and a well armored heavy tank on top of that.

By this metric E100 is apparently also severly overpowered and needs to go up in BR. Nonsense.

tf… kv 220 is OP, everyone knows that. Why u try to defent a tank with 100mm armor, sloped on the front, a turret that can barely be penned and generally a tank that can be almost not oneshotted and often not even crew kills… in the turretfront.
Btw, e-100 is also really stupid strong. Its a maus with more armor and 50% faster.

I you know what you are doing, it is not. It’s basically a newbie bully tank.

It is barely sloped at all. It is only better armored than Tiger due to side armor which allows it to angle more, not the frontal one.

It gets wrecked by anything firing solid shot that can go through it’s breach. ARL is pretty much hard counter to it for that reason.

And you seem to forget that any shot at this massive “impenetrable” turret automatically disables the breach and makes the tank free kill.

It’s really not that hard to shoot first if your target is the size of a 3 story building, while enemy has to aim more carefully.

This goes for pretty much any 6+ crew tank unless you have Overpressure rounds. A frontal penetration will still leave it with 2 crew at best and cripple it for good.

I genuinely want to know why do we keep getting copy-and-paste tanks instead of new ones added to the game? This is the third T-34-85 that’s about to be added to the USSR tree in the past year. Why don’t you add new ones like the KV-13, T-43, T-34M, T-150, KV-3/5, SU-101, etc?

When we get tanks like the M-55 they’re just dumped on every nation. Most countries only get a new WW2 tank every couple of years.

The T-34-85 (STP) at 6.3 would be hot garbage compared to the T-44 (FM) and T-34-100. I think any reasonable person would trade a stabilizer for an extra 80-90mm of extra penetration on the gun and longer reload. You can point and click Jumbos/Panthers through the upper front plate with the 100mm guns while with the 85mm guns you need to aim for precise weak spots.
