…that would kind of be awesome.

Port novo if they actually used the full map instead of making it taking a tank to a knife fight

For some reason Strelas are amphibious in every tech tree, while only soviet one could swim with all its armament installed. Cuz only this modification has floaters.
i mean if you remove out of bounds and make the water more shallow. But thats requiring map rework to make entirely new mechanic viable.
I just dont see the benefit.
I still think they would need to make the warer more shallow if you dont want to skiddadle along the coastline at whopping whatever is the fastest the tank could run underwater.
Both these maps have a very deep and beachless ocean/lake, isnt it? Even swimming vehicles can’t go back on ice on Finland when jumped into the water, iirc.
well… they are Ground battle maps, not coastal warfare maps.
fair. i could see it having an intresting niche flanking mechanic so that the map stops being locked down by certain unfair vehicles every match
cant really make port novo be shallow without it no longer being novo, its one of russias major naval bases for their oceangoing fleet (the only bit of their navy left) so it should at least resemble that
Ok, there are five maps. Normandy, That one desert map with ocean and a fort on an island, and that one city map in the middle of the desert with ocean nearby. Also jungle map with ocean at the top and vietnam map maybe.
I do find it funny that the argument has to resort to listing ocean maps where player would have to go out of his way to utilize the deep wading equipment for a “flanking manuever” that would take ages to execute in order to justify its existence, clearly showing this implementation would be just waste of resources.
Here they are, maps where water bodies could be useful:

Maybe Darwin’s hill also? I don’t know it well as its a recent addition.

Basically, it can be used only to spawncamp, thats it. Just a very long series of actions to spawncamp an enemy that did not notice your snorkel above the water.
It was removed because the M113’s amphibious capabilities weren’t really there.
Everything after the A1 was far less capable of it; not to say it couldn’t, but 5km… isn’t exactly worth it.
Most rivers on the map that Gajin lazily didn’t bother setting up had very calm waters. Instead, just used the ocean, aka “rivers,” but they’re actually just the ocean in disguise. So 5km in any variant after the A1=you drowned.
In terms of the Ka-Mi, Gaijin cannot be bothered to improve Japan WW2 ground—too busy selling people $80 packs for a copy-and-paste MBT. (Also, yes im being critical, Gaijin. Cause it’s the hard truth: Japan is heavily neglected).
It could take 20 or 30 seconds to set up. After all, repairing a tank only takes a few dozen seconds in the game, so I don’t see a problem with that.

Keep it on the down low, but you can just drive through there normally, as long as you aren’t in an L3 lol
Welcome to the unpopular trees 🤷
A wrecked engine takes just a few dozen seconds to repair in-game. What’s the worry about fitting a snorkel kit? Haha. That’s the kind of compromise on realism people can understand and accept.
the entirely of the map is too big, like currently there are 4 different maps based on port novo, each of which is a different area (i think like 2 of those maps dont exist in rotation anymore/at the moment), its also 2-3km across the bay from edge of playable area to other edge of playable area
“Unpopular”? Yeah, I wouldn’t call Japan “Unpopular”; popularity has nothing to do with it.
It’s more the fact that when Japan is depicted in most media, in terms of Tanks and such, it’s always shown with worse equipment, and rarely have we seen later-stage Japanese equipment that was far better.
Case examples: Ho-Ni I and Ho-Ni II.
The few instances of a Ho-Ro.
The Chi-He, Chi-Ha “Kai”, etc.
Hollywood and other equals just don’t bother. Documentaries also do the same thing. It’s simply a case of people having this idea that Japan is just crap, bad, inferior, etc. When in reality, they weren’t. Just slow to adapt, or lack the technology to do so.
Aside from that due to a lack of a lot of equipment in the game. It doesn’t fulfill much of what someone would like.
The difference is how water works in the game; it’s a Register hitbox. Once a vehicle passes below this specific line, it sets off a timer to “Drown,” aka slowly kill the crew.
You need to look at this from how a game reads this stuff. Reality is, trying to implement this idea would be a massive pain in the arse to even do cause it requires the Snail to figure out how to redo the entire way you die in Water, which also means completely redoing how you die on a map. Since both are the same system on 2 different timers.
Unpopular as in not many people play it in war thunder… Didn’t need the paragraph
As does other actions like replacing a track, fixing a transmission that took a massive main caliber slug to it, and so on… Yet all of such takes 20~40 seconds.
