Dead Squadron holding good tag. Can anything be done?

Not exactly gameplay, but this issue IS in-game. And squadron creation is a part of the game I suppose.

Synopsis: This particular squadron was created in 2013, with 2 people, and 1 additional person was added and made deputy in 2019. None of the three have any activity as of the past few years. Is the squadron tag locked down forever with these three inactive clowns? :(

I had no intention of blasting specific players or the specific squadron, but if anybody does even a slight bit of digging they will probably find out anyway;
I made a squadron called “-Jetss-” focused around Jet aircraft in War Thunder. These three players are holding down the “[Jets]” tag from a squadron made in 2013 referencing the New York Jets American football team.

It’s a small gripe, but I wish their squadron tag could be forfeited due to their inactivity.

they did have to pay 2500 GE to have it, so they would have to issue a refund if they took it away.

Yeah he paid 2500 eagles for it, and if nobody in the squadron logs on for an entire year, it should be disbanded and the Commander refunded the eagles, NOT refunded the cash lol.

Let him buy something else in-game for that 2500, OR he can RESTART a new squadron and try not to quit the game for a year this time.

Point is, there is a limited number of letters and words and symbols, and nobody should be able to lockdown a squadron name then quit. That’s just wrong.

^ This, actually. ^

So many good potential clan names tied up by 1-2 people from 10 years ago who haven’t played in years.

Pretty much like domain names being parked.

This thread should be revisited and touched on some more. I’m currently in the same situation where two dead squadrons have tags I would like to have yet there’s no way to contact them and I’m stuck with a sub-par version of what I wanted.
I read the idea above about refunding GE after a year or two of squadron inactivity which I think is great. Something where all members of the squadron or at least a majority of members must have 0 activity points for a year for the squadron tag to clear up
I think the harder working squadrons have earned that one, Gaijin.

Reup. I mean we’re not asking for much here. Even if the requirement was ONE member of the squadron still had to have played ONE game in the last YEAR, you’d still free up so many good tags that have been sat on for a decade. Just refund the owner in that case, not that they’ll ever see it, because they’ve left the game behind.

I’d check the banlist caches out there and see if they hadn’t been caught up in one, and see whether that may forward your cause.

They don’t play, nothing to ban them for. Most of the owners of the really good ones haven’t played in years. Kinda wish they’d sell their accounts tbh, so they would be bannable.

I’m mentioning to check if they aren’t banned, and that’s why they haven’t been active…

Yeah I get you. Right now that wouldn’t even matter though. So long as they never delete their own account, they could still hold onto the clan name forever, even as a banned player. But most took off and never came back years before Gaijin started with the serious ban waves. If you’ve paid the GE for it or inherited as the deputy from someone who did when they left, the name is yours in perpetuity, and if you don’t play you can’t even be contacted to ask to sell it.

I expect a non-zero of the owners of the cool account names have passed away, tbh.

EDIT: Not a full scrape, but I did a random sample of 250 squadron names, just for fun. Came up 92 out of 250 had zero activity, or 37%. Of those the number of current members ran from 0 to 10, median of 2. The two squadrons with zero members in that sample is interesting, indicating they keep the name on the database even after everyone leaves (it doesn’t necessarily mean you couldn’t ask for it again, though).

Hi! Regardless of how long they have been inactive, we do not delete or change the names/tags of inactive squadrons or players.

Regards
OrsonES.
