Dassault Rafale - Variants, Characteristics, Armament and Performance

I’m running it down for the J11B, you’re not alone.

Based J-11B grinder

We will make that trade you can drop 2 MICAS and we will drop 2 IR missile ;)

Considering that the Rafale can a priori fire its missiles using RWR, data fusion could be considered important.

Definitely worth it

More important than a working Radar?
Typhoon can also lock and track targets using Praetorian

It’s true that the Typhoon would be better with a functional radar but the ability to fire missiles with the RWR would allow for absolutely ridiculous shots, especially with the Mica for the Rafale

Oh so I don’t have to learn French to steal one, awesome!

So you think having a feature that wont ever be in game is more important than having a Radar that functions?

Yes it would be cool so would 180 degree ASRAAM shots but we don’t have those kind of missiles and we don’t have those kind of sensors.

Did I ever say it’s more important? I just said that data fusion is an important thing for the plane, not the most important.

I agree but baby steps we cant have one jet in the game with all the bells and whistles while the rest are modelled so poorly.

If Gaijin want to add real sensor fusion it will take time.

Right now the Typhoon has fusion it just needs the Sensors…

Obviously if it has to be added it will be done over time and on all planes, I’m not particularly in favor of it at the moment, the game will no longer have any meaning

MICA being nerfed in-game makes this a rather fair trade

Yes and No I have no problems with the Rafale having the range of the 120.
In fact it would (pre nerfs) be far easier to kill Rafales in BVR than have the short to medium range knife fights you always lose.

Gaijin nerfed the MICA because the Rafale would have completely invalidated every other jet in game.
They added the 2019 model with an AESA instead of an earlier model with the PESA

You cant have the best FM, best Radar and best Missile.

  • Unlike ASRAAM or IRIS-T, Mica IR will be immune to anything short of spectral flares. This means immunity to even BOL flares. Then there’s also the Mica NGs to come…
  • I doubt Captor-E will come anytime soon. There’s not enough info on it. For example, Eurofighter mains don’t have a single source for its range.
  • Rafale’s DDM NG has been reported to have at least three times the range (>27km) compared to the Eurofighter’s MAWS (~9km) as things stand. Eurofighter mains have no reliable source for the range of MAWS anyway.
  • OSF should simply be a far better IRST than PIRATE when all things are modelled.
  • Rafale is also missing a lot more sensor fusion as others have pointed out.
  • Rafale is still missing its electronic warfare capability, such as the ability to jam radars.

I could go on but that’s just off the top of my head.

Those are both missing from Eurofighter as well.

ASRAAM has a new seeker head, but again you would be silly to think every jet that faces these missiles will not have Spectral/Smart countermeasures.

Agreed it’s very new should be on par with what the Rafale has or superior being that is 2020 technology similar to the APG-81

As are many aircraft, it’s not something in game currently. Or boy would I have fun jamming Radars in my Tornado F.3

3 times the range isn’t really an accurate figure though. I don’t doubt again being newer it isn’t superior. Typhoons is modelled incorrectly though and the limited information confirms 60± Azimuth and we have 40± modelled in game.

Newer does not always equal better than counterparts

Generally in technology terms it does.

My understanding is that Rafale’s electronic warfare suite is far more extensive. But I’d have to quote someone else for anything further.
