Dassault Rafale - Variants, Characteristics, Armament and Performance

Of course the navalised version had a lot weight concerning the Eurofighter

But also this would have lead to the death of many french industrials : SNECMA, Thales, matra

By the time Eurofighter was being discussed the UK was already long committed to smaller aircraft carriers using VSTOL aircraft (Sea Harrier) rather than CATOBAR (there was a lot of politics with RAF and RN competing for funds leading to that decision). There was a separate programme running alongside the Eurofighter for an advanced Sea Harrier replacement (NST 6464). The very strange looking P.1216 was the leading design for that. Of course lack of funding killed it.

Plus you don’t have to deal with Germany blocking exports. It’s the main holdup to EFT being more successful abroad.

Talios POD commercial. Some interesting stuff being displayed (pod view integrated on a map and auto-detection of moving targets). Would be interesting for late variants and once AASMs are introduced :

I’m not going to go political, but the FCAS is being done with them, so that might change soon X)

One could argue that Germany constantly blocking exports was a lifeline to the Rafale program allowing it to get more funding for upgrades and weapons enhancements.

France wasn’t even supposed to start developing Rafale F.5, since it was a backup plan in case of the SCAF Franco-German project falling through. Yet, now France is still going ahead with the considerable F.5 variant despite also committing extensive funding for SCAF.

Maybe in 20 years time we’ll be saying the same about Tempest…

Hopefully not. Arguably though Tempest is due to come online sooner than SCAF, so on that basis alone they could probably secure some customers as well as being a more mature product.

To my understanding, the Eurofighter wins on flight performance while the Rafale (atleast the early ones) won on radar/avionics/multirole capability. The Eurofighters have since either closed the gap or surpassed the Rafale in the aspects that it was lacking. Performance wasnt too far off tho according to this:

We already know that this type of performance rating does not even remotely apply to War Thunder in the majority of cases because the method of scoring is based on real world considerations that are not present in the game.

That seems pretty odd, since its pretty contrary to what I’ve heard/read from Eurofighter pilots…

I didn’t know that, finally something worth of reading instead of xx posts about what is better, eurofighter or Rafale.

It’s the same story when asking pilots who has the better plane. The Gripen pilots say they are superior to F-16. The F-16 pilots say they are superior to Gripen. The Eurofighter pilots (like Tornado pilots) always say they are superior to everyone else. We know none of this is true and none of it has context with the exception that an alleged clean F-16A lost to a Eurofighter with two tanks in supposed WVR simulations.

According to Russia, the T-90M is superior to the Abrams… Yet both have been taken out of combat by Bradleys. This is just another example but goes to show - unless you have hard data, which is the only relevant data for the game, then there is no comparison to be made. For that we will have to wait and see how they model the aircraft because no unclassified data is available for those ‘newer’ fighter aircraft.

Hello

I already addressed these types of evaluations unless you have hard data and numbers;

Some one didn’t read the message i sent

If you have hard data and numbers, please share them. I do not have the time or care to dig through hundreds of messages to find if Flame had posted them or not. If they are evaluations as I said… then what I said applies.

No

Well, technically that picture from the Netherlands’s test which went public for some reason and is easily found on the first Google search :

While it does not give much information it still put the rafale (f4) ahead of the EF, and on par with the F35, while the f3 is ever so slightly better than the EF tranche 3

There’s also the consideration that France wanted to use their own nukes on the EF, and that did not fit well with the US, and led to some issues in the project planning phases

I feel like that a bit of a stretch. The AIM-260 is looking to beat the MICA NG into service based on what I have seen. And it is comparable to the Meteor, though trades the RAMjet for a staged design
