Dassault Rafale - Variants, Characteristics, Armament and Performance

All Rafales F-3R equiped with a functioning OSF will look like that : the square sensor (TV) is visible but the ball (IR) is grey’d out

And it’s not just retracted for protection, you can see how a functioning IR sensor looks when retracted and it’s different

Do we know which OSF the F3R have, because if it’s the OSF-IT from the F3-4OT the Ir channel was removed for a better TV one

There is also this where they talk about a comeback of the IRST for the F4

My French is incredibly poor compared to what it was, so I may have got this wrong stumbling through it, but these excerpts don’t seem dispositive of compatibility with the system? It’s entirely possible I’m missing something with my shoddy reading skills though.

Just to be clear, it’s not been reviewed with an outcome yet, they could still say its marketting, or they don’t see how its possible or reject it.

I have however been able to find some atmospheric conditions linked to the PIRATE IRST and its capabilities that I will use in the report to hopefully boost its chances, but these come from a SELEX Gallileo report (the manufacturer) on its testing trials, is there anything similar available for OSF?

I can take a look if you want, but I don’t speak French so I’m sure you can find something better.

Has anyone made a report about Rafale’s arrest hook not working ?

Sorry for the delay in my response

You are right, I spoke with Rafale gunsmiths who confirmed your information.

In fact I had misinterpreted the information in the articles, for me the removal of the OFS IR channel meant the removal of the thermal capacity of the camera and not the removal of the IRST, hence my confusion.

However I suppose that Gaijin is deliberately vague about the name of the aircraft in order to give it some capabilities of previous versions, including the IRST

Yes they can still reject it but given the evidence provided and the one you present there is a strong chance (at least I hope so) that this postponement will be accepted.

For the sources talking about the OFS, there is no document from the manufacturer that talks about its capabilities, the defense secret in France being a little particular, the information can only be disclosed several years after the end of service of the system, we can therefore only use secondary sources

Where Galileo will give some figures, Thales only indicates the capacity to detect targets via their thermal signature, nothing more, not even a range.

May be that can work, so yes

I’d say let the IRST stay and make a bug report to enhance its current capabilities.

We already limited by Rip Speed and amount of missiles so having IRST will not hurt anyone in this case.

I gave all my sources to Waretta and he said he’ll take care of it. To know what will be done it remains in the hands of the devs.

The dev server being closed I suppose that the update will arrive at the end of next week, we’ll see at that time

Hopefullly IRST stays, i dont want to loose that ability on my beautiful Rafale.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we get a second dev server. It seems that a lot of flight models are still very incorrect

I think the time will be too short to have a second server dev, usually the update comes out on the Friday before Christmas and there is about a week between the closing of the server dev and the release.

We will see but I am skeptical about a second dev server

Especially EFT, i spaded yesterday and its flying like a UFO, pulling 17G’s while having almost full fuel with 8 missiles is ridicilous.

Yes, the videos I’ve seen with EFT are hilarious, the plane does whatever it wants.

Its pretty much BS if you ask me.

Nice! But one thing I really want and find important is having two different sounds to differentiate between an incoming radar-guided missile and an infrared-guided missile, since the Rafale carries a limited number of flares.

Working with Wareta on the IR channel of the OSF. It appears that the IR channel was removed because it just did not work properly. It was then added back with newer capabilities in the new OSF-IRST system with the F4.1 standard.

Do you know if the IRST will be removed or if it will be kept ?
