Dassault Rafale - Variants, Characteristics, Armament and Performance - Part 2

Shameless plug to get attention on reports again:

Rafale’s IRST lacking air-to-surface mode // Gaijin.net // Issues

Talios targeting pod missing black/white contrast channel // Gaijin.net // Issues

Went back to doing more research, a primary source was found for the specific variant of Rafale F3R of being capable of Mach 1.4 supercruise.

what conditions did it give?

No specific condition was given, like loadout or fuel or anything of such. Even before the nerf, the Rafale only did Mach 1.34 supercruise with no loadout.

hot, cold, normal day conditions? pretty sure thats modelled in wt.

I just loaded up the standard testflights, not sure how much of a difference that makes.

The basis that the AESA Typhoon isn’t real isn’t true, ZK-355, IPA 7/8 exist have existed for years now…

UK MOD took some nice photos of Charles De Gaulle while on exercise;

Dassault Rafale M takes off from the French Navy flagship, the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, taken from HMS Dragon during flight operations on 21st May 2026. HMS Dragon is currently operating east of the Suez in the Middle East ahead of her tasking so support freedome of navigation and ensure UK assets are safe in the region. HMS Dragon has embedded with the French Carrier Strike Group as part of the multinational coalition to support freedome of navigation and ensure the SoH are opened and remain safe for Merchant Vessels.

I count 14, likely more, very cool.

Might be a bit of a long shot but figured I’ll try with this report anyway.

[BUG] Rafale lost thermal view in recent patch // Gaijin.net // Issues

I blame @sudo_su1 for this /s

So here’s the source showing that the production Rafales has Mach 1.4 supercruise contrary to what many allege that its real supercruise is Mach 1.2 (I don’t get how a test flight doing Mach 1.2 = max supercruise):
Technical characteristics - MORH

It’s from the Croatian MoD which has bought secondhand Rafale F3Rs from France. You guys might see something else interesting in that source too. Hopefully Gaijin does fix the MICAs if the supercruise is artificially nerfed as it is for now.

In case anyone is wondering about what features and mechanics are missing from the Rafale, you can take a look at this list:

Spoiler

List of missing mechanics for the Rafale:

  • Air to surface radar mode
  • ESM mode
  • Target point enslaved to ESM mode
  • Black/white contrast channel for FSO/Talios
  • Air to air missile firing through FSO
  • Air to air missile firing through ESM
  • Air to ground missile firing through ESM
  • IRST having automatic gimbal
  • IRST having air to surface mode
  • AASM-IR missing LOAL seeker
  • MICA missing orientation phase
  • Talios pod missing moving target detection
  • Radar missing combined waveform
  • DDM-NG missing spectral discrimination
  • Passive ranging for RWR
  • Radar missing multi-target ACM
  • Radar missing memorization of targets when switching modes
  • Combined FSO + Radar correction
  • Combined IRST + TV correction
  • Combined IRST + Radar correction
  • Radar signature reduction
  • IR signature reduction
  • Radar LPI
  • IRST + IFF combination
  • IRST TWS

this is for the MICA-VL obv right?

Irl MICA VL uses the MICA air to air missile, so it’s for the MICA air to air as well.

Spoiler

yes thats true, but im just skeptical about the viability of making an aam do such manouvers in close proximity to the launching aircraft (at flight velocities)
which makes me think this is a VL feature.

What Macron wants is the same type of behavior as SLM/EldE/CLAWS/NASAMS/NOMADS/Buk and whatever else there is get at launch.

yes but thats for ground launch.
at zero-zero
i doubt the same physics can be applied safely in flight

Kinda funny worded like that

I asked someone to test the orientation phase on the air to air mica in game, it doesn’t cause it collide with the aircraft or phase through it if that’s your concern

I mean, what he wants is the part where the missile does not guide by itself, but for the first few s it is “dumb” pointed in the direction of the intercept point.
