HISTORY
When the Norwegian Air Force’s fleet of F-104 Starfighters and F-5 Freedom Fighters were aging, they started an process to evaluate and test several jet fighters from different countries and producers, this began in 1970 and lasted until 1975. The fighter jets that were evaluated were the Saab 37 Viggen, the Dassault Mirage F1E, and the Northrop YF-17 Cobra. The Norwegian Defence Research Institute (FFI - Forsvarets Forsknings Institutt) performed detailed operational analyses to determine the best aircraft suited for a defensive posture against potential Soviet Russian threats in the Northern parts of Norway. After the evaluation and testing ended in 1974/75, the Norwegian Air Force choose the F-16 Fighting Falcon, the finished product of the Northrop YF-17 Cobra prototype. After choosing the F-16 Fighting Falcon in 1975, Norway became a member of the European Participating Air Forces (EPAF). This group integrated one qualified pilot from each nation including Norway, directly into the F-16 Joint Test Force at Edwards Air Force Base in the late 1970s.

During the evaluation of these planes, among other planes the presented Dassault Mirage F1E was tested and flown by the Norwegian Pilot Olav Frithjof Aamoth. He was born the 4th of October 1934 and was a Norwegian officer and pilot. He started at the flight school in 1954, and in 1983 he became the Inspector General of the Royal Norwegian Air Force. This is the only plane of those evaluated that i have been able to verify that has been flown by a Norwegian pilot for testing’s, however there is highly likely that either he or others did fly some of the other planes. The testing itself happened in France in the period 1973-1974, i haven’t found the exact date.

In the game this could be a event vehicle due to it’s situation of purely being tested, this could be either as a part of its role in the Swedish/Finnish techtree or what i guess soon to be subtree, or in a independent Norwegian/Danish techtree where it could have a more important role and make way for potential domestic or tested/trialed Swedish/Finnish planes of the same era.
