The story of the Étendard began because Marcel Dassault and his technical general director Henri Deplante were unhappy with the decisions of the French Air Command. Dassault Aviation developed the excellent Ouragan and the Mystere for their country, but that didn’t stop officials from also procuring the American F-86 and the F-100. More importantly, in 1950, there wasn’t a single French combat aircraft operating from the sole aircraft carrier of the French Navy. A total domination of American technology!
