HISTORY
Country of manufacture: Great Britain

This type of car was developed in 1940-41. A total of 2,694 units were produced in 2 almost identical versions until 1941. The car was originally designed as a “wheeled tank” and had armament similar to British tanks during the first part of the war. They were mainly used by British and allied forces, not American and Soviet, as a heavy reconnaissance vehicle and as a support vehicle in armored car regiments. The wagons were used in North Africa and in Europe from the invasion of Italy until the end of the war. After the war, the wagons were used by a number of countries in addition to Great Britain.

When the Norwegian Independent Recce Squadron was established in 1944, we took over 9 units of this type of car from the British. Together with the light Daimlers, they formed the basic stock of the cavalry after the war. In Norwegian service, these guns were used for reconnaissance in the reconnaissance squadron until the beginning of the 1950s, when the weapons aid began to take off. We also used this vehicle type in the Reconnaissance Squadron in the German Brigade together with the Humber Scout Car. the picture above is from Karl Johan in 1945
