Angle of penetration and gaijin gimping the vehicle

Just tested, if you shoot the composite screen in Protection Analysis then it will use only the armour value of the composite screen, and will phase through the hull armour behind it.

Maybe it doesn’t happen in battles.

its at gepard BR so it will

Is it also possible that the devs didn’t add armor to the front of the turret and the IR spotlight box? In the model, they look like plates that are screwed on, but they don’t provide any armor, therefore, both the turret armor and the IR spotlight armor are exactly the same as those of the Mk1 scimitar.

Yeah there’s a fair bit of composite that’s not included in the protection model around the front of the turret. They’ve only assigned a couple of the composite plates on the turret and the rest is treated as the turret metal

Some close ups of the front of the turret for visualisation of where the welded metal ends and the composite appliqué sits on top

The box next to the gun isn’t a spotlight though, it was a NV telescope. That’s removed on vehicles with thermal imagers and the space is used for cooling and electronics units for the gunner’s periscope complex.

Thanks for the information.
It seems these armor pieces aren’t in the model either, right?

Another thing I’ve been thinking about for a while is, what the hell are fences for? Out of curiosity, I tested the impacts with various HEAT rounds and the fences couldn’t stop even the 90mm rounds (320mm penetration) when supposedly they should be able to stop common RPG-7s, which have a similar penetration.

Gaijin’s modelling of bar armour isn’t great.
In game it acts a basically spaced armour as HEAT shells always fuze. Where as IRL it damages the HEAT warhead to prevent it functioning properly. It’s not 100% effective, if the projectiles fuze strikes the slat or a support directly it’ll just function as spaced armour

It’s curious to me that they put those vehicles with barbed armor, and that they are literally useless (I have to test if they are effective against 40mm HEAT), because they are not capable of protecting against absolutely any chemical ammunition, unless they are small caliber HE.

You can remove the slat armour thank the gods

fat git is slightly less fat now woopieeee

That’s reasonable, since there are Scimitars Mk2 without that armor. I’ll wear it anyway because I like it better aesthetically.

there isnt any HEAT shots it will currently defeat (even tho it should give 300mm protection from shape charges) so it genuinely isnt worthwhile other than for drip

I admit I’m a bit particular. For example, I only buy premium vehicles that I like aesthetically, regardless of whether they’re good or bad, and I do the same with Tech Tree tanks. Since I don’t particularly like chain link armor, I simply don’t use it, even though it’s the only armor that actually works in the game. I also don’t use the Conqueror’s armor, and I’d love to be able to remove the added armor from the American M60A3TTS or the Italian Leopard 2A2, since they didn’t have it while in service with their armies.
Regarding the fence armor, I seem to recall that besides causing the HEAT round to detonate sooner, it also caused the tail of the HEAT round to hit the fence if it passed through, deflecting it and causing it to strike the armor at a very extreme angle, something that doesn’t happen in the game.

Speaking of composite issues…

Just so happens to be right where the crew are too, ha. I guess needs a bug report?

Gaijin is a true expert at adding hugely flawed vehicles, while at the same time fixing a few errors, and forcing players to endure serious errors for years, or forever.
