In military terms, concealment and cover are both forms of protection, but they serve different purposes:
- Concealment refers to anything that hides a soldier, vehicle, or unit from the enemy’s view. It doesn’t necessarily protect against damage, but it makes it harder for the enemy to detect or target. Examples include thick foliage, shadows, or smoke. Concealment keeps you hidden, but if the enemy is aware of your location or can find you, they can still target you.
- Cover, on the other hand, is anything that physically protects you from enemy fire. It can stop bullets, shrapnel, and other projectiles. Examples include concrete walls, boulders, or trenches. Cover provides both concealment (if you are hidden behind it) and protection from attacks.
In summary:
- Concealment hides you, but doesn’t protect from damage.
- Cover physically protects you from harm while potentially offering concealment as well.
TLDR : Smoke is not cover. Worst time to use smoke is if you can not move and you have a team mate nearby that is able to shoot. All you are achieving is to enable the enemy to engage you on memory point while hindering your team from providing fire cover.
