in a straight line BVR (assuming the enemy is a bot and doesn’t turn), R-77-1 actually beat aim120 too
Tbf I cant know for sure since i haven’t actually tried it myself, but from what i see in killfeed and having been fighting them myself it definitely seems on par or slightly better depending on the situation
lol
On paper with the same launch parameters it barely beats AMRAAM at 40-50km (~1s faster to target). This is also in a best case scenario where target is simply flying afk and we don’t take into consideration that AMRAAM slingers can reach launch altitude quicker and with more speed.
In practice, R-77-1 still won’t be the best BVR missile due to massive drag and platform limitations.
I suppose given the different parameters typically taking place the AMRAAM will still outperform, but the SU30SM really doesn’t seem to be that bad of an airframe, but feel free to correct me on this.
It’s heavy and with not a lot of power. It’s easily outrun by current 14.0s and it’s only gimmick is basically TVC, otherwise it’s pretty mediocre at best.
With R-77-1 you’ll finally be able to confidently launch at something over 10km away and actually hit it.
Notice how small of a difference there is between 120 and R-77 on paper, while in reality getting a hit with latter at 15km was a lottery to say the least. This is why I think 120 will still outperform R-77-1 in everything that isn’t very close range relatively speaking, of course in a real gameplay scenario.
sure, if PL-10 and PL-15 comes this update
Thats fair, it only remains to be seen with the final implementation on the live server and proper tabulated statistics. It seems like it will be better than base R77 in practise, but not by a lot. I’m thinking of grinding USSR air soon and see for myself, currently only at 9.3.
It’ll definitely be better than R-77 but I don’t think it’ll be anything special all things considered.
30SM is a slow chonker that’ll get even more draggy if you carry all 14 missiles.
I think people started dooming way too early about it.
Missiles behave like microscopic needles last i checked, its the weight thats the biggest problem
They have weight of course, but ordnance also increase the drag coefficient IIRC. It’s shown on the card of the current loadout.
They do but they’re much lower than their IRL counterparts in the drag coefficient. Which i think is fine btw, but it does mean it has less of an impact than one would think at first glance.
