Constant random crashes (any time) Linux / AMD 7800XT - multiple distros, Wayland + X11

Hi. Only recently started playing (feb this year) with my son. Love the game - however it seems to have got (maybe always was) very buggy and randomly crashing, either going to menu or in the middle of battle…

I have tried 2 Distros, Ubuntu 24.04.2 (with AMDPRO driver) and Endeavour OS (Arch) with both RADV and AMDVLK - tried X11 and Wayland, tried vsync on/off all same

And when it crashes i can see a few dialogue boxes but can’t click them - I have to go to a tty and ‘killall -9 steam’ in order to regain control of the desktop…

I’m not having issues with other games (native and proton) and it doesn’t seem to be overheating

How can I provide a useful bug report ?

Does anyone have any other suggestions ?

Thanks

Have you tried Pop!_OS? From what I’ve heard is the most game friendly distribution on Linux.

You can attach game’s report dump at Community Bug Reporting System but I highly doubt we’ll get any answer to those bugs soon. Regardless of the operational system, it seems that the crash is happening to a few number of people.

I have used it, however the reason its known as a good games system is the same as Arch (only its easy to setup - but so is Endeavour OS) which is it has the latest kernel/mesa (drivers), etc - if I am getting the crashes on both Arch and Ubuntu (using 3 different amd drivers) I cannot imagine pop os will be different…

Thanks for the advice about sending bug reports, I may as well do that…

It’s annoying as War Thunder despite the constant crashing is probably one the best games to play and it performs brilliantly - over 400 fps @ 2K at movie setting (I have tried max and lower settings too and lower resolution and still got crashes)

I think the issue has now gone after most recent update

Been playing for hours no crashes !
