btw you can alt tab and use the pc normally during the freezing.
the game will eventually crash if open for long enough.

Hello @sshane833, @claud_yu, @RavenGuardMarine, @Super_Eurobeat,
Could you all please submit a bug report on the Comunity Bug Reporting platform regarding the issues you are having?
https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder
Making sure to provide all required files and information.
Seems like someone’s already opened an issue that is the same problem I’m having: Community Bug Reporting System
They’re pointing the finger at BattleEye which seems likely given the gamemodes the freeze occurs in.
I’ve already marked on the report that I’m having the same issue.
Would it make sense to open a “duplicate” issue?
Seems there was a update and it broke the games performance.
- I cannot change beyond 1920x1200 resolution. I need to manually change it in config.
- My fps on 2560 x 1440, max, SSAA 4x went from 120-110 to 70-80 fps.
- Changing settings does not affect fps at all. still 70-80 fps without SSAA 4x, lower resolution, lower graphics etc. Actually it drops to 53 fps now on maps where it peaked at 150 fps.
- The freezing still exists and is even worse
Yes this is a known issue however more reports from different players can be a help. So if you would please submit a report about this issue. :)
Could you please submit a bug report regarding that performance drop? Making sure to provide all required files and information.
I have the same issue on Fedora with KDE Plasma 6. I believe it started happening a few weeks ago. The issue appears mostly at the start of ground battles.
Hello,
Yesterday I played warthunder again after some time without playing and this issue happens.
This issue has been present for me on Enlisted for ever, I have complained about it did a ticket sent logs nothing was fixed.
This problem is much worse in warthunder as it puts you in a huge disadvantage, making one unable to rush a cap at the start. With Enlisted it was fixed and also increased my FPS by using Porton, however Gaijin will kick linux users that do use Proton making us unable to go down that route.
I’am guessing the same happens for Warthunder
Still no fix for the freezing and abysmally low GPU load which causes ridiculously low FPS (21)
DESPITE rendering at nearly 4k, on max client and max settings.
This shit is unplayable. Fix it already
Yea same exactly this always one Huge freeze followed with a Tiny directly after the first
Behaviour is also present for me.
I have the same issue since 2 months ago. Before it ran normally. As you say at around 15 seconds the game image freezes, you can hear the last sounds in a loop, after 4 or 5 seconds unfreezes, then freezes again for about half a second, and then it runs normally until the end of the match. I am on Linux too.
It only started to happen to me after switching from proton to native in January (since proton stopped working with anti-cheat).
This will happen no matter what map, nation, br or graphics settings I play at.
It doesn’t seem to be affected by network connection (both ping and packet loss) and it only happens in matches (Ground RB in my case) not in test drive.
Checking file integrity in steam didn’t fix it.
Sound mod doesn’t seem to affect it.
I have the full game version with HQ models (the largest option in the launcher).
System specs:
OS: Pop! OS (Kernel 6.12.10)
DE: GNOME 42.9 (with Wayland)
OS/Refresh: 2160p@120hz running in fullscreen
CPU: Ryzen 9 5900x
Memory: 32GB
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX
I have provided a video showing the freeze in action (the video was taken during the JSDF mascot event so the packet loss is present, but the freezes are the same even when there are no events).
This makes the game kinda hard to play and resulted in me just not playing it at all for extended periods of time.
Considering this came not so long after the blinding flashing/lighting issue, it makes me wonder if the Linux releases are even tested before public release, but considering the quality of the latest updates…
Problem started with one of the updates. I’m having problem under Ubuntu 24.04 under KDE/X11 or GNOME/X11 running RTX 2080ti. I suspect cheat engine video scan so they won’t disable it if means cheaters can play. There was big game which greatly reduced cheaters once they banned linux players with proton so it seems cheaters are getting on Linux to get around kernel level cheat engines on Windows. Cheaters ruining games for others. Problem seems to occur 1-2 matches per session. Can get about 10 sessions without problem.
Strange thing is I didn’t have any laggs in the ww1 Event
But as soon I start live Ground game it’s Back
So it’s probably not a rendering/Vehicle issue
Or maybe we should add infantry to live matches if that solves the laggs 😛
Yeah, WW1 event didn’t suffer from this issue, so it seems to be fixable.
Same problem on stock Bazzite, 2 freezes at the start of each games that I didn’t have when I was using Windows.
The game is installed on a separate drive in an XFS partition if that matters and I use AMD for both my CPU and GPU.
Also the performances are pretty much terrible on Linux compared to windows, I had constant 170-380 fps (220 stable) and now I barely get 70-170 fps (110 stable).
Though thank you for having a Linux build, it’s really appreciated.
Happens to me as well.
I get 2 freezes every single ground RB game, usually within 10 secs of loading in and they always occur within 3 seconds of each other.
Unlike some others on this list, I have not run into large performance differences between linux and windows other than those two freezes.
I use an intel 12400f and a rx 7700 xt.

The same problem, but in the Steam launcher 1-5 seconds and the Vulcan error. But already in the Native WT Launcher 0.5-1 second or there are no more freezes.
Same as Galvanizedneuron, I have the same if not at times better performance than windows. However, two freezes occur early into a GRB game. Did not reproduce this in arcade nor practice range. Using the steam native version. Tried with LD_PRELOAD=“” and gamemode.

Same issue. I assumed that because of my Linux distro. Tried KDE Neon and GNOME (Ubuntu 24.04). Game freezes at the beginning 2 times for 5-15 seconds and then running smoothly without issues, but that causes problem when you need to take position ASAP :D
Afterwards everything runs smoothly. Have 150-180 FPS.
Attached my setup to this message.
