Community Update No.9: It’s The End of the Year!

ima just use my T80 UE1 for a few battles just to see the options i get for free…

So, some good stuff here for sure, and one question mark.

Good things:
–B-25 cockpits
–Improved map logic
–Confirmation map dislikes still have an effect
–Expanded naval random aircraft
–More naval battle awards (so more SL and RP)

Question mark change: the direct tying of naval crew% to become the effective naval hit points, and not sections of the damage model. While there’s probably not much choice here given the mode being the way it is today, it does go against long-held War Thunder maxims that “we don’t do hitpoints like that OTHER game, ew” pretty starkly, at least for naval. Crew drain as a mechanic has very little to do with any naval combat reality trying to be simulated here, and does feel like Gaijin is throwing in the towel on ever trying to make good realistic naval damage models that work, after years of trying. Which is at least a little bit sad.

(I also liked that the map changes that the company believed in (because it was all server side code so they didn’t have to expose it on a dev server first) were just stealth-enacted, without telling people or submitting it to a vote or offering a mix of “the old system and the new system” with yet another toggle in options. I appreciate player choice too, but I think if you believe you can see a way to make a good change that feels right and necessary for your game, sometimes you should just do it. This would be an example of one of those times. So that was a good call.)

Requiring players to have a minimum of 3 vehicles in their line ups(sans Air RB ofc) to even “activate” the “To Battle” button would be a helpful addition.
Yes, players that acquire a single high tier premium just to play up there would be at a slight disadvantage. But even then they will have Reserves and most likely some low tier vehicles they can use to fill out a minimal 3 vehicle preset/line up.
By having single vehicle line ups, they can easily play the one vehicle, die and instantly get back into the queue to do it all over again.
If they were to do this using a 3 vehicle set, then they would get a crew lock and have to either wait, or play something else for a time.
And all this would really do is lessen the amount of one death leavers by a most likely small margin.
But at many BR’s, anything would be helpful.

It would also help newer players to learn how to make better line ups, which would also be helpful for them and the team mates that they will get . .

I think it’s an idea worth investigating at least . . . “What could go wrong?” . . ☻

Not everyone plays RB all the time. We need to think of things/options that will work for all modes
Continuity is something that gets swept under the rug far too often in the game as it is

I know it must be frustrating for players who have grinded for many hours just to get the proper vehicles to now see that it was kinda useless.

I think its important to look at this tho from the perspective of a completely new player. If the vehicles they get are just bad and they just don’t get kills with them, they will stop using them. This mechanic could very quickly go down the same road as strike drones did. Everyone back then said that they were OP (yes on release they were busted) but now you are just setting yourself up as a RP piñata.

Additionally I personally would much more like to see people play vehicles that fit the BR instead of just useless junk, especially when it comes to the quick technological advancements BR to BR at the higher echelons.

I know what you are getting at but I dont think giving players mediocre to bad vehicles is the way.

I need FK2000

i don’t think they should be random… think about it… the main reason people get premium top tiers is to get those and if you’ve expirenced most of them, you done what you’ve wanted and just stop trying to progress. like i feel players should get a FIXED MBT and SPAA to use for USSR (example) they could have a T80B/T-72B (1989) and a Osa-AKM/ Strela-10M2…

Generally nothing, but I do think this mechanic can be improved.

The way it is now it does add additional vehicles to lineups which is already great and helps players that simply run out of vehicles (namely those that just bought a premium and nothing else), but a lot of players still leave because they feel too disadvantaged in a full 1.0 uptier.

This is the perfect opportunity to reduce the number of people leaving because of that by giving them a random vehicle that’s closer to other players vehicles. Essentially the range of random vehicles should depend on the match BRs, the average given vehicle should be about average for the game (in a 9.7-10.7 game for example it should be 10.0-10.3 vehicles).
For some additional balancing you could give the fully uptiered players a chance at top BR bracket vehicles and maybe balance out the existing advantages of fully downtiered players by adding bottom BR bracket vehicles to their selection if either of those are seen as necessary

Example

Player BR Random Vehicle BR
9.7 10.0 - 10.3 (+10.7 (optional))
10.0 - 10.3 10.0 - 10.3
10.7 10.0 - 10.3 (+9.7 (optional))

*optional
This example is for a 9.7-10.7 game

At the very least I think these should give equal opportunities to all players in a match, instead of punishing or rewarding players further for the outcome of a random matchmaker.
This is better for teammates expecting their team to contribute and for individual players that get a more fair chance to do that,

Sorry if this has been asked/ answered already but does the random tank thing only activate if you only have 1 tank in your lineup or what is the limit?

Does it include premium tanks?

Yes, this is a difficult mechanism to balance. Giving too much will make climbing the tech tree meaningless, while giving too little will result in no players using it.

so

So we can set random vehicles as gold coin rewards and ignore cross level penalties, which can offset the problem of slightly inferior random vehicles

what do you mean with gold coin rewards? as in you have to pay?

Nice

Oh true didnt think about the other gamemodes. Well for sim they could just make it possible to spawn every vehicle twice, with only 3 ground respawns every one vehicle premium player could then spawn his premium mbt/light tank twice plus one random vehicle, which there should be a slightly lower br spaa as free random one to spawn (for these it usually doesnt matter if it has expert/ace crew) or some support tank?
For arcade im not sure since its been years since i played that…

Yeah thats what im saying. it shouldnt be possible to joing matches with one vehicle lineups and just never get crewlocked. at some brs it feels like thats what 75% of ppl are doing constantly especially after sales. They are in a completely different gameplay loop, easily playing 20 matches per hour while im playing like 4 to 6??? Players should get a free option as it is announced and an incentive to still stay in the matches and support their team, and i would really welcome if it was at helping vs cas, which in many matches in top tier is what these one-vehicle-lineup players really helped the enemy team to spawn (proper rewards for dealing with cas when gaijin?).

Golden Eagles

does anyone agree or is it just me?

Lol u dont want to punish the people that onespawn leave and u also dont want to motivate to respawn… good job why even bothering then to give the option.

Just remove the respawns alltogether if u dont want it in the first place.

What u can do as a solution is easy, for the first 2 spawns u get a bonus of 20% more sl/xp of total battle result, each spawn. Its not a ton but its not punishing the one spawners while motivating everyone to spawn again.

Or give the onespawners a onespawner mode… and if u only have one tank in the lineup ure not allowed to join the normal mode where ure supposed to respawn.

Idk.
But I can look for what they might add.
