CAS aircraft are not just useful for ground battles, but also people do also use them in air battles and particularly also naval. Not to mention, both of these aircraft come from previous player feedback and suggestions too for both of these nations sub trees inside of Japan.
Japan still has a lack of strike aircraft (sometimes needed for Battle pass / daily missions and challenges) from Rank I all the way to Rank V. So both of these aircraft not only fill functionality gaps in the tree, but also provide new tools to help complete dailies, missions and BP tasks too.
Neither of these aircraft block any space for Japanese aircraft. They are new Strike aircraft for Japan, which the tree lacks and utilises their sub trees to provide more representation there.
Will we see a new kind of display/user interface that would display detailed aircraft flight model data, as mentioned in the previous Community Update? Is this still on the plans or dropped?
@Smin1080p_WT Do you know if the tank or the ship will be the main reward for the battlepass as people are confused if it will be a TD below rank IV or above it as this could change what we think it is.
They are literally, physically blocking slots. I don’t know if it’s the Gaijin engine or something else, but the claim keeps being repeated over and over that there can only be 5 lines and 3 vehicles per era. Now, for instance, they add two aircraft to a line in era 4—and suddenly, there’s only one slot left. They are literally, physically blocking space that could be used for Japanese vehicles or aircraft from sub-trees.
So, are more pointless “folders” grouped vehicle entries being planned? Like the one combining the Ki-61 and Ki-44? I honestly don’t understand the choice of the Avia B-33—why not the Ki-51? The Ki-51 is a support aircraft used by both Japan and Indonesia; it’s not just a boring “copy-paste” job—it has an interesting history and decent armament. Furthermore, in my experience playing naval modes, spawning in an aircraft just makes you an easy kill for any ship (I mean, what is an aircraft with 23mm cannons and two 250kg bombs supposed to do against a cruiser or ships with MANPADS, or a destroyer with a million AA guns?)
The Ki-51 is not comparable to the B-33 at all. Its an entirely different probable Rank, tree position and BR in question. The Firefly and B-33 are coming at ranks and BRs where there are no strike aircraft currently, when the Ki-51 would likely be a much lower rank. Where there is already a Strike aircraft:
So its not coming “instead” of it. People suggested and requested both the B-33 and Firefly. This doesn’t prevent any future Japanese aircraft. They are new tools for players to use at entirely different Ranks.
Avia B-33 is a welcome addition to compliment the aircraft options we have, & is the first great CAS option for 5.7 ground; complimenting the okay A6M5 Hei.
Ki-51 isn’t comparable.
There is more than just our biases that can & should be added.
Firefly adds something for my 4.7 lineup.
Oh, I had these statements in my original draft, but Smin posted them prior to me being finished with my post:
Nothing is added instead of anything, nor should be.
F8F if it’s the 20mm one would be in the 6.7 lineup, not the 5.7 as an example.
I don’t have such a big issue with the Firefly FR Mk.1, as it fits reasonably well into the Japanese tree and actually bolsters Japan’s capabilities (the fact that it effectively sidelines the CAS role of the Ki-102 Otsu shouldn’t be happening, though). But the Avia? Why not a Thai F8F instead? It also offers CAS capabilities, has a similar battle rating, and fits the Japanese playstyle—it’s a win-win. Why, before we even get our first dedicated Japanese ground-attack aircraft—one that was armored and developed even before the Il-2—are we being handed a lackluster “copy-paste” job under a different name? And will it at least receive any unique modifications, or will those be ignored, just like the modifications for the Mi-35?
Are you actually suggesting that a bomber with a 75mm cannon—which has poor maneuverability—is comparable to a highly agile, armored attack aircraft equipped with bombs and rockets? Now I understand why Japanese CAS aircraft are completely ignored.
