China obtained the T-72 Ural main battle tank (MBT) from Romania, and also acquired the T-72A MBT through unknown channels. Based on the T-72A, China carried out in-depth modifications: it was refitted with a cast turret, equipped with additional explosive reactive armor (ERA), and outfitted with the same commander’s panoramic sight and gunner’s sight as those used on the VT-4. This modified variant is known as the T-72 “Ghost”
