So I’ve been attempting to create a camouflage for Z-19E for my Squadron. I already have some experience with creating camos as well as giving them reflectivity and metal properties, depth and so on, however I have no idea where or how can I edit the cockpit glass texture.
As you can see on the picture below, I’ve used black base with golden themes.
My whole point is to make the cockpit glass like on the F-16C, golden(ish).
Via Asset Viewer I found out that F-16 Block 50 (so C) uses “golden_coating” texture for the glass, also found the texture itself. I have also found “default_no_coating” and attempted to replace it in z_19e.blk with:
Unfortunately this gave me no results (yes, I do have the golden_coating.dds in the same folder as Z-19E files). Seems like Z-19 does not use the file.
I browsed through the assets in Asset Viewer, but could not find either any reference to glass texture for the helicopter or the helicopter glass textures.
Is there any way, without editing references in model files, to obtain glass texture or change the texture?
In the end I would like to obtain same effect as with any other texture - having only the z_19e.blk together with image files for the custom camo (so no playing with 3D and changing references within the model itself).
Yeah, those coating files are used for the HUDs and sensor lenses, not the cockpit bubble. I am having the same problem finding the texture file for Rafale’s cockpit bubble. Usually it comes in the form of “planename_glass_c” and I am not sure if they changed anything to it since then. You should try filtering for these keywords and see if you can find anything.
I also tried to replace glass textures on some helicopters, in particular the RAH-66, and now I’m trying to figure out how to do it on the MH-60L DAP, and to be honest, I’m increasingly starting to think that the glass texture in most models is embedded in its properties, that is, it cannot be changed with a simple user skin, and the F-16C is just an exception where this parameter is changed. Of course, I could be wrong and simply not know the structure of glass texturing on helicopters/planes, but so far I’ve tried a lot of options, and none of them made any changes. I tried exporting models from the game, both F-16C and others, and they all have a glass material named “dynamic_glass_chrome”, most likely this is either the name given by the toolkit itself, or the name of the logic for applying glass textures and its rendering, so far my verdict is that the glass can probably be replaced, but my predictions indicate that this may also be a built-in parameter in the game, which is why you can’t change the glass. In any case, this topic needs more in-depth analysis of the game, I hope this comment helps someone.
