CM Covert Disclosures No.4: Information & Q&A with War Thunder Game Director, Viacheslav Bulannikov!

if only Germany had bought more than 1 new plane every 20 years

If only the same situation with Japan’s F16 could happen to Germany…
Would love a random mythical jet to appear in my lineup

youd have to look at a list of what the luftwaffle considered/evaluated and go from there

Good thing it’s 13.0.

We’ve established you have very limited knowledge of fox 3 planes. So tell me, how do you know that the USSR TT is more powerful than planes you haven’t played?

Why is no one else talking about getting different game mods. Its been years the same mod. Capture the points this, capture the points that. IS ALWASY THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER. I’m the only one that wants something different?

So basically the game will be more meta focused than … fun, playability, cool stuff added, well, whatever 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not in the context of MM which can throw you into matches with AIM-120’s. What’s disingenuous is thinking that the Yak-141, MiG-29, 29SMT, Su-27, or Su-25SM3 are seriously worth taking into a top-tier ARB match right now.

Been here since the F-14A was released unparalleled to anything that could stop it. I feasted during the limited reign of the MiG-29 with the 27ER’s. I’ve seen both sides dude.

This is why I wouldn’t be caught dead taking a MiG-29 into any top-tier match right now, and that’s even with the bloated-whale-carcass of an SMT having some R-77’s.

If you aren’t in an F-15, or an F-16C, or a Gripen, this is the new experience for everyone since the SPAMRAAM meta began. It is neither unique or exclusive to the German tree, and I hate it as much as you do.

No. Because 1. there is no top 3 trees in the sense that they are all equally capable. There is F-15, F-16C, Gripen. If you have one, you have a “top tree” right now. Fixing the issues with Russia that would make it more competitive, i.e the flight models of the Su-27, MiG-29, R-73 issues, R-77 issues, would help USSR/Ru, China, and even Germany. 2. You should be fixing everything all at once. There’s literally no reason to “fix” Germany, and not “fix” Russia and China.

Yes. Water is wet, the sky is blue… And if you actually play top tier, you’ll know it’s a SPAMRAAM event until they run out of missiles, and then a furball is created. And no, I shouldn’t have to wait to be able to use my R-73’s, they’re a weapon of last resort. I should be able to, if I chose, get some elevation, and fight BVR on a somewhat equal footing. Right now it’s all ACQ + R-77 at 17km and less.

Yes. Because the ARH they launch is not good enough, and adding the planes alone only lessens the suffering.

Literally no one has said that.

Yep, 1 update 2 years ago.

Some trees literally don’t get that choice. Germany, for example, its the ICE or the 29G. Both are horrible now compared to what they face.

Then we disagree here. There’s nothing to “fix” on RUS because they’re the #2 tree behind the US. If you suddenly “fix” Russia, they now become 1 or 2, and further leave the worse trees behind.

I’m not sure where everyone is thinking i don’t play Air RB lmfao.

Weapon of last resort…? The 29G gets 2 SARHs, and 4! R-73s! Its the only option to take!

Can we please not mega nerf the typhoon if it comes.

Instead of adding better missiles such as R-74 and R-77-1 why don’t you rework the Flanker’s flight model since its severaly unreallistically underperforming?

You’re not alone

They don’t realize that APCR was designed to penetrate through thick-plated armor and Angled plating to an extent.

No mention of new game modes for ground, sadge.

Now we’re talking. Hopefully we get SL and RP for missile interception 😁

one of the main talking points was the new player card and we relayed this information to the dev team
We had a lengthy discussion with the devs about its design based on feedback.

Feedback after forcing in another feature no one asked for instead of gathering that feedback on an idea ahead of time.

In hindsight, the team realises that releasing the player card with missing information beforehand was not very effective

We could have told you that before hand, but the community is somehow not involved in these discussions before hand and we just have to deal with whatever is thrown onto us and try and complain hard enough and pray it actually gets fixed, still waiting for the stupid button that appears for plane loadout in air to get fixed.

Would benefit everyone to discuss features ahead of time and develop them in the right direction, instead of doing whatever and then having to fix it afterwards whilst dealing with it for the duration, which tends to be many years with how long things take to develop in this game.

According to our data, the balance at the top ranks of ground battles is noticeably shifted towards aviation and helicopters, and this balance has become even worse with the introduction of top aircraft this year.

Oh great, your data suggests it… I guess the community complaining about it for years wasn’t enough of a reason of course.

We’ve collected feedback on this event and will look to improve similar ones in the future. s. We’re still analysing and thinking of ways to improve them and make them as fun as possible without the feeling of a “marathon”

The community again not included in this apparently, and again collecting feedback after the fact.

However, in our experience, very few game sessions in ARB end with the destruction of ground vehicles.

I guess everyone is just lying then, after all, why start listening to the community now.

Gaining some score from missile evade would be nice, right now dying gets you more score than evading them…

its also a nice way to get some score from baiting and wasting enemies missiles

@magazine2

The Soviet / Russian Top Tier fighters don’t need better missiles. We only need the Air Frames to be fixed.

Mig-29 Drag is slightly higher then what its supposed to be.

Su-27s Has Automatic Flaperons set to ON by Default with no OFF switch (Automated Flaperons doubles as Flaps)

Please View this Report that I’ve already submitted and you’ll understand. Its already been Accepted, We just need it implemented.

Good to hear this, hopefully next year will bring us more ingenious designs of so called “minor” nations in the game, so they will become more attractive to players.
I’m especially waiting for the expansion of the Italian air tech tree, for example Aermacchi jets and multiple WW2 designs, such as Caproni family, are long overdue.

Nice! It will open a lot of possibilities for most of nations in the game. I see it as “a pet” vehicle mechanic, for example you control launcher-vehicle, while radar vehicle is following you by AI and you can choose between 2 if needed.
PS please let us make suggestions about such systems consisting of few vehicles on the forum, because currently it isn’t allowed.

Overall, seems very positive.

Issues after updates are to be expected. The only reason the playerbase is so critical of development choices from time to time is because we know how good the game could be given their correct implementation.

Personally, I didn’t mind the “Missile Evaded” message, although I can understand players having a problem with it being a little unrealistic, so it’s good that it is disabled in SB and optinonal elsewhere. Having more details become optional, will allow players who are willing to potentially sacrifice a little bit of competitiveness for game feel and realism to do so, which I think is a nice thing. Perhaps there are other features that could be toggle-able in RB aswell

I think the solution here is not to focus on implementing new stuff for the Soviets/Russians, but to re-examine the models already in game. Both the Su-27 and MiG-29 FMs have received multiple well written reports about how they are underpreforming, as had the R-77 missile. It doesnt ‘ring true’ that the Flanker should be so much worse than an F-15A, or even F-15C, in a close range dogfight (R-73 tricks excluded). Please don’t misconstrue this as USSR main cope - I play every nation and would like to see each nation be represented such that they are competitive and fair. Please consider reading these reports and reworking these russian FMs.

Regarding energy these do not differ much, but they do have a much improved seeker head. While the energy of the R-77 was the main source of complaints, it is not the only fix. The MICA EM also has relatively poor range for an ARH missile yet receives fewer complaints. This is because in terms of its other characteristics, it is excellent. The R-77-1 need not be implemented to compete with the AMRAAM in super long range, high altitude jousts, but it might allow the Soviet missiles to be more dangerous in some closer range scenarios, where currently the AIM-120 variants are better in every single scenario. Personally, I believe the reports that suggest that the drag on the R-77s fins is incorrectly modelled, and that the solution is to rework this, rather than add the next variant, but the reason given for not adding the R-77-1 does not seem to be a particularly good one.

The new player cards have potential to look very nice, but unfortunately the lack of statistical information was a massive drawback, so it is good that you guys are taking on board that feedback. The various showcase player cards look great, and I’d love to see them in game, and love to see what other ideas you guys have.

I understand why you might say this, but I think you are missing the fact that a large chunk of the player base do not necessarily want vehicles because they are going to be especially meta, a lot of us just want to see our favourite designs in the game, even if they are destined to be uncompetitive, like the F-117 was. Sure - some halfwits will inevitably complain about these vehicles not being good, but the majority of us will understand. The F-117s lack of competitiveness is not an issue for the vast majority of the playerbase, we were just pleased to see such a cool and unique aircraft in our hangars. These types of vehicles could be something that is regularly added, although obviously not in place of competitive ones.

The majority of ARB matches occur at high BRs, where a seperate issue is present - that being that there are too many players per team, and many maps are too small. This causes kills to happen too quickly at these BRs and many matches end before ticket bleed could even be a problem. This is a separate (albeit important) issue. Ticket bleed is at its most notorious at lower tiers. At these tiers, a significant proportion of matches do end via AI ticket bleed. Furthermore, ARB is mainly focused on air combat and PVP, sure, there are other ways of playing that need to be considered, but this is the main one. The fact that very few game sessions end with the destruction of ground vehicles might not necessarily be a bad thing in a gamemode where air combat is the focus.

Furthermore, the crux of the matter is that the majority of the playerbase find it unsatisfying that potentially interesting air combat scenarios at the end of matches are cut short due to AI ticket bleed. Sure, if an enemy attacker is destroying ground targets and this is causing ticket bleed, then this is completely fair, but the tickets should not bleed without player interaction. In many cases, this outcome is frustrating for both the losing party and the winning party.

Excellent news, although I think given this change, aircraft should be given more terrain cover on GRB maps, and potentially GRB maps should have their size increased. The intention here is not to shift the balance back towards CAS, but to make sure that aircraft have means to defend themselves. CAS needs to be balanced, but it shouldnt be done via adding systems that effectively have no counter. The Pantsir S1 is already quite notorious in this regard.

And hopefully some enraged wasps aswell.

Again, Russia, comparative to the F-15C/E, F-16C, Gripen SPAMRAAM meta is horrible in comparison. You get Su-27SM or Su-34. Neither are good in comparison to the SPAMRAAMers.

There is plenty to fix, I listed them all in my above comment. Fixing all of those problems still wouldn’t even counter the SPAMRAAMing, only lessening the suffering of Russia, China, and Germany.

Russia is not #2 in air, it won’t suddenly become #2 in air when the fixes I’ve mentioned occur. Even if they add R-77-1, or the Su-30SM, Russia will not be #2 in air.

Who even suffers if Russia, China, and Germany are brought up? Italy, Sweden, and the UK all have Gripens. Japan has the F-15 with the flippin’ AAM-4, the new Israeli F-15I is basically an F-15E, and that airframe is now the top performing air frame in the game.

Because you don’t even have 400 games of Rank VIII to your name, meanwhile, folks like me (who barely play Air RB compared to those who ONLY play it) have been playing long enough to not skip straight to top-tier (you have almost no flight time in lower rank planes), and have been playing since (for me) the MiG-23 was the top tier plane. I know what the meta-shift has looked like now through 10 major updates. I’ve played almost 1000 matches at “top-tier”, and that’s without grinding the CAS I enjoy taking into my ground games.

People who have been around the game a little longer, have a better appreciation for the health of the game, and a more mature mindset around fixing the game. Case and point is your insistence that all nations can’t be lifted up at the same time, and your refusal to see that fixing FM’s and performance on Su-27, MiG-29, R-73, and R-77 would benefit not just Russia and China, but you as a very obvious German main.

I don’t know about you, but my matchmaker never spits out a true redfor v bluefor game, and so I need all of my teammates to have the best chance against the opponent. That’s why I’m genuinely glad Germany, the UK, and Italy are getting the EFT, and that France is getting the Rafale. It will help disrupt the SPAMRAAM meta. These aircraft will be matched with my team. Unfortunately, based on the news we’re getting here, I’m destined to spend at least one, but more likely 2-3 more patches hugging the ground until it’s my turn to die in ARB.

Dude, you’re playing the 29G. Go get in the ICE and figure out how to play that thing if you want more missiles man. Again, I wouldn’t be caught dead in a MiG-29 in ARB at the moment.

Edit: For the record I absolutely hate bringing players records into discussion. But others mentioned it first, and frankly, it’s relevant in this case.
