I can see this an air related OP but Schindibee mentioned ground and I am thinking “No thankyou”
WW2 WT has become a joke and I dont need to be trundling around in an unmodded Ferdinand with 60s fast tanks darting around and suddenly hit a mine or a cluster bomb dropped from the air when the game is already over before I get there as it is.Might be fine to lay some mines in ARB for bots but not in GRB if that is what was meant.
And people wonder why there is ODL and players leaving.I wish the Gaijin people would think of things from a players perspective before changing the game.To much short thinking ignoring the long term and repercussions.Like putting a big V8 in your car without up rating the breaks.
I feel like it would lead to friendly-fire problem in GRB considering each cluster bombs has even bigger area of effect than FAB-5000 and one aircraft could carry a dozen of them but I might be bias since I have trust issue against friendly PE-8.
I do feel it’s a fine addition for ARB tho since it’s a proper weapon to delete bot collumn in air interdiction but I dread anyone trying to CAS with them.
Honestly, i could actually see a future where there is a division of armament/munitions for arcade/realistic and Sim. where much more “game/balance-breaking” munitions could exist in sim and not in realistic or arcade.
Like introducing cluster or glide bombs for base bombing in air sim.
But not all nations habe Incendary bombs, so
I still hope we will see them someday (the earler the better).
Alone the thought of the metal rain is nice.
However, I’d rather have some more relevant functionalities added, especially freely configurable ripple mode, ripple quantity and ripple interval for bombs…
I think adding cluster bombs would help out ARB a lot. Since cluster bombs are air burst that shoot bomblets over an area one bomb could tank out 2 or more vehicles in a convoy, or a group of the new ground units added to Air rb. so you can get more ground target kills and not everyone would be rushing to bomb bases.
Plus in ground rb it would defiantly take out grouped AA , or severely damage a few enemy players. It would also look really cool lol. I had a guy try to drop retarded bombs on me and over shot and it was really fun to see them floating over my tank. Dropping napalm is also visually stimulating but at higher br’s it dosnt really effect anyone
not really, because dropping a 1,000lb bomb or a cluster bomb would require both to be in range of the spaa. so the only added threat to spaa’s is guided munitions since they can be shot outside of its range. The lower level TOW missiles that are on helicopters have to be inside the spaa’s range to be able to hit anything, plus there is no guide lock you have to maintain the marker.
all fine in top tier but not so good at 6 BR and below.
It does also depends on your definition of cluster bombs or the type of cluster bomb the op means.
Some are little more than mines dropped such as the WW2 German Butterfly bomb. Some are anti tank and immediate.I see also now the op starts with Air and the talk gets taken to GRB mid way through.
Germany also has the first guided bomb in the game and it doesnt cause any issues. The first cluster bombs were more anti personnel than anti armor. so they may track tanks and kill open top armor ( like napalm bombs ) but not do much more to armored targets.
I can see the higher BR ( like 10.0 and above ) getting more anti tank cluster bombs. These wouldnt guarantee kill like a normal bomb, but could take out light and do sever damage to MBT’s and have a possibility of getting an MBT kill. I think it would work more like a suppression weapon to give ground targets time to move up or pull back while the enemy repairs.
I see no reason why CBs could not be added, maybe limited at first, only on some planes and maybe not allowing full loadouts. I doubt they would be as devestating as some imagine, since HEAT can be rather lacluster, and these will be imprecise, tiny bombs. If they are actually way more powerful than standard bombs or rockets, the spawn cost can go up. Some planes can take many hundreds of quite powerful rockets but those have not killed the game.
