Churchill gears are still wrong

As of Update Spearhead, vehicles based on the Churchill I and Churchill III still have the incorrect top speed and rpm, causing a loss in automotive performance.

Based on the rated speeds at 2200 rpm, which is identical in both manuals, the top speeds at 2400 and 2550 rpm can be calculated via the formula; newRPM x (Speed / oldRPM).

Vehicles based on Churchill I should have a top speed of 17.4 mph (28.0 km/h) @ 2400 rpm.

Vehicles based on Churchill III should have a top speed of 18.49 mph (29.75 km/h) @ 2550 rpm, due to their engine being governed at a higher RPM.

Transcript

Issue;
Churchill I & III series vehicles were modified as follows;

  1. Churchill I - 28 km/h @ 2200 rpm > 28 km/h 2550 rpm
  2. Churchill III series - 28 km/h @ 2200 rpm > 28 km/h @ 2550 rpm

According to the below sources, while early Churchill tanks (not Churchill VII) are equipped with the same Bedford Twin Six & 4-speed transmission powertrain, their maximum governed engine speeds are different;

  1. Churchill I - 2400 rpm
  2. Churchill III & IV - 2550 rpm

In both sources, a speed of 15.95 mph (25.67 km/h) @ 2200 rpm is given. This means that at governed rpm limits, the following speeds are achievable;

  1. Churchill I - 17.4 mph (28.0 km/h) @ 2400 rpm
  2. Churchill III & IV - 18.49 mph (29.75 km/h) @ 2550 rpm (rounded from 18.4875 mph)

Vehicles affected;

  • uk_a_22_mk_1_churchill_1941 (28.0 km/h @ 2400 rpm)
  • uk_3_inch_gun_carrier (28.0 km/h @ 2400 rpm)
  • uk_a_22b_mk_3_churchill_1942 (29.75 km/h @ 2550 rpm)
  • uk_churchill_na75 (29.75 km/h @ 2550 rpm)
  • uk_churchill_avre (29.75 km/h @ 2550 rpm)
  • germ_infanterie_kampfpanzer_churchill (29.75 km/h @ 2550 rpm)

I cannot say i am knowledgeable with respect to churchills, so idk if this is all right (ill assume it is), but this would certainly give a boost to the worst churchills

Thanks for the trust.

While the Bedford Twin Six’s rating is at 2200 rpm, the Churchill I/II and Churchill GC instruction books show that the engine is governed at 2400 rpm on both vehicles.

The Churchill III/IV instruction book shows that with the same engine and gearbox, the engine is now governed at a maximum of 2550 rpm, meaning that the top speed must be higher. For a simple top speed estimate where all elements other than rpm remain the same, divide the top speed by the current rpm and then multiply by the new rpm.

Example;
2550 x (28.0 km/h / 2400)
