Hi, I’ve been having difficulty committing to one nation. I know I want to either grind Germany or Russia, and perhaps Italy as well. I have Germany up to 6.0 for ground and 5.0 for air, For Russia I have it to 6.7 ground and 4.7 for air. Italy I only played for a bit so I only have that to 2.0 for both ground and air. I’ve heard that Italy’s playstyle is pretty fun and they have great fighters, however, their low tier is a drag for me. I like Russia’s T-44, it has great armor, mobility and a cannon that can work if you play it right, but I hate the IS-2’s, their armor doesn’t really work and I constantly get one shot in them. Their reloads are unbearable, even more so when your loader dies. I know the 122mm is used even more in higher tiers, and I don’t want to have the same experience. With Germany I like their tanks, they have great armor, decent mobility and amazing guns. I really like their tank destroyers too. Their planes are also great, the only thing holding me back, is that people say that Germany’s air tree from the early jets onwards are is really bad. Same thing with the tanks after the WWII era until top tier. I could do the US, but I’m not a massive fan of their tanks, and people say the Abrams is also really bad. There’s also Sweden for the best high tier experience, but their low tier is extremely painful to play and there’s some big gaps as well. I have over 700 hours of the game played and I still don’t know what tech tree to choose
Well ,technically you dont have to chose, you can keep playing every nation spread out if you like playing that way :)
It depends on what your goal is and what you want out of the experience. I’ve personally played mostly Sweden’s top BR and so far found that to be the most fun for me personally. I’ve recently started to branch out to both USA and USSR and have so far felt their top BR to be somewhat equal but due to different reasons (the USSR so far has a slightly lower win rate for me but i also haven’t spaded the top there yet so can’t say for certain).
But in regards to the top BR 11.7-12.0:
The USSR is way more survivable and tend to frequently take more hits before getting destroyed but has HORRIBLE reverse gear and slower reload so i often find myself in situations where i’m hit but don’t have time to hide nor shoot back before getting hit a second or even third time. They do however tend to more often survive the first hit without any damage what so ever and give me the chance to calmly line up the shot and hopefully take out the enemy before their second shot. Another advantage is that the USSR start with that fast reload immediately thanks to the autoloader. (So TLDR; more likely to survive but less likely to get kills)
The USA has way less survivability and tend to get destroyed on first hit more often but has an easier time hiding and repairing after only getting damaged. They also reload faster (once crew is leveled up) so if both tanks shoot and both miss/only injure you are more likely to get the second shot of before the enemy and destroy them if aimed correctly. Disadvantage being that at the start they are slow to reload but has the potential to be faster in the end. (So TLDR; less likely to survive but more likely to get kills).
Sweden is honestly the best top tier experience for me so far. They seem to be somewhere in between USA and USSR in playstyle (but i think Sweden is better than both). Slower reload than the USA but faster than USSR, way better survivability than USA but ever so sliiiightly less than USSR (like a miniscule amount and almost only in specialised situations). Its sort of like the best of both worlds so to speak.
I sadly can’t say anything on Germany as i haven’t played them much and just recently got my hands on the Leopard 2A4M CAN, but from what i understand, have read and seen; Germany seems to be a less survivable Sweden but with harder hitting rounds.
So in the end it really comes down to how you want to play, do you like glass canons, slower less hard hitting tortoises that can take more hits or do you just play to “be the best, get the most kills and win most often”. Just as a first step you can test-drive the higher BR MBT premium/event/squad vehicles to get a feel for them and sort of gauge how you think it would feel like to play them in a match.
How long did it take for you to get Sweden to top tier?
By the way, my goal is to make it to top tier
At the time i did not have premium time nor any premium vehicles and was completely new at the game, i think it took me approximately 5-6 months (which honestly isn’t a good metric because it doesn’t mean anything unless we also know how many matches i played per day on average) but could easily be done faster as i didn’t play to progress but played to learn and have fun :)
But currently, with my premium time, i think i can get from zero to top in any of the trees in about a little less than 3 months if that is the only thing i go for (i tend to switch around a lot and play the events/battlepass challenges as well when i play normal).
And what is your plan after that? to stay and play at the top or to switch to a new tree?
Do you know anything about Sweden’s air?
Yep, It’s one of the more “quirky” air trees with some weird playstyles in the middle to early top tier. As soon as you get into jet planes there are several ones that are a bit odd to play but works well if you learn what they excel at and play with that style (which can be a bit hard to do if you are used to a specific play style and enjoy playing a certain way). The SK60B and the SAAB-105 are both CAS beasts at their BR’s once you figure them out (you can test fly the SAAB-105OA premium). the J32 , A32 and J34 tier (Rank 6) is likely going to be a hard point of the tree to get through as they differ so much from how the rest of most air trees play (you can test fly the A32A premium). But then the Draken , Viggen and Gripen planes are good and fun to play :)
What you have to do is persist and put Germany or the Soviet Union in the top tier first
I think I might just do Germany or Sweden, I have the most fun playing Germany at their mid tier but from what you and other people say, Sweden’s top tier is really good
why them?
Wwii and Cold War had nice vehicles
I will just add some food for thought.
You can grind every nation at once, it will take longer but logically speaking, more battles = more experience = you will do better.
If you want to reach top tier fast, focus on one tree at time.
