Chinese PGZ09 SPAA AHEAD ammo

I’ve unlocked this SPAA and am curious what peoples experience is with the PMD062 AHEAD shrapnel ammo. Do you notice any advantages against AC or GV’s?

Yes, it is very powerful. Incredibly consistent at destroying munitions and extra stealthy when used against aircraft in combination with IRST lock

It’s great specially for clueless helicopters that are just stationary or are flying above the battlefield(the usual strategy), but try to fire on short bursts while fhe ammo crate exists you will run out of ammo fast will full automatic fire

Still not sure why the Gepard doesn’t get it

gepard can fire it but cannot program it

there was a picture of a gepard with seemingly upgraded muzzle brakes which allow or the programming of AHEAD but its not proven. there is a gepard with IRST however

not with the chinese one but with the german one on PUMA (same principle). Now that fuze is set automatically (believe it or not that wasnt the case on release), its great at engaging drones at helis. Not on the same level as proxy fuze but its the next best thing.

Since PGZ09 has twin cannons and sits at much lower BR, you will get much more mileage out of it.

I can’t stand the AHEAD rounds, I’d rather use WZ305’s HE-VT, personally, lol. But the AHEAD can work wonders when it does work.

It’a lacking a pattern when exploding ( shrapnel goes at random directions) and lacking more shrapnel and shrapnel travel distance is short vs how they are irl. Basically they are nerfed version compared to irl performance.

However, if you use them right, they work wonders. Stopped mavericks from A-10s, bombs, AGM from helis as well if able to lock onto them on time. Love that SPAA.

The real threat of the PGZ09’s AHEAD rounds are the lack of tracers, too. Total opposite of something like the M163, where you can see its stream of bullets out in space.
