possible, new image shows 8 external pl-15. should also be able to carry pl-17. the 4 external hardpoint can hold 2000l fuel tanks.

What is the difference between the 16 and the 15?
I thought that 16 was supposed to be 15 but with folding fins, allowing for 6x in IWB of J-20 and J-35.

hard to say, should be more than just folded fins. only folded fins isn’t worth a new name.
like AIM-260 before the image leak, we only know the name.

PL-15E: crying

considering E usually for “export”, the folded fin version even has no suffix

pl15E also had folded fins though, I doubt PL16 is literally just fins, likely similar size, but with a difference of engine or guidance.

From what I know, the PL-16 is PL-15-sized but ditches the mid-body wings – basically a PL-17 shrunk to PL-15 dimensions.

So it will allow for 6x of them in IWB?
Removal of the fins also suggest TVC

Can u say where u got that from? I originally thought it is literally just improved PL15.

of course

no tvc, like aim260 or asraam

Some PLA-linked military bloggers claimed it.

Ain’t the PL-16 the now called PL-15E with folding wings?

No, the PLA usually doesn’t bother re-designating missiles for minor tweaks.

Okay, boys. I made it through that painful Dev stream. Key take away is PL-8B. It’s about time. Keen.

PL-16 was just a nickname given by the internet when PL-15E was first shown

the name is confirmed but without knowing what it is.

I was hoping AIM-9M IRCCM as that is better for range but I’ll take what I can get

but that’s not enough to make J-11B a 14.0 plane. and against gaijin’s words about why they don’t giving J-10 PL-8B
currently it still lacks multi-element seeker and upgraded rockets
