They stated that it is an AMRAAM replacement in AMRAAM form factor and will be fielded on the F-22, F-35, and F-18 initially.
I think it’s only similar size, to fit existing planes, could have more radical design to create advantage
There are a LOT of other programs currently to develop other designs.
I think it more or less is similar although the IRCCM on 9C is different.
Hey buddy, I would like to ask if you were the first person to propose that J8F cannot use PL11. What is your opinion on this CCTV program
J8FwithPL11
He knows about this already, when this program came out
J8F is a standard, and I think when other J8s, like B or H which are PL11 capable for upgrades to the F standard, they didn’t remove the SARH option.
J-8F is a new build improved airframe with entirely new radar lacking a continuous wave transmitter. It would be limited to HPRF guidance only for SARH launches.
J8H has same radar as J8F, but with PL11 capability.
That’s not true. There are clearly two distinct radars initially.
No? J8H was in 2000. I know wikipedia said type 1473, I think both had 1492, not very likely for J8H to have J10 radar.
Since there seems to be a bit of confusion…
PL-15 is the long range fox 3.
PL-17 is a missile that allegedly is supposed to be an extremely long range missile used up against tankers and generally force multipliers, not at all a PL-15 substitute.
PL-16/PL-15E is the newly unveiled long range fox 3 that has been unveiled at Zhuhai, it features retractable fins and therefore gives China the chance to use 6 fox 3s in the bay of both the J-20 and J-35. Some people also mention longer range, which could be true due to additional improvements done to the missile itself but we still need to have confirmation on that.
Do u know what radar J8H has?
Not off the top of my head.
IDK why wikipedia’s source says KLJ1 which is same radar as J10, doesn’t make sense.
I wouldn’t use Wikipedia in general.
They have a book as reference, but yeah.
Gordon, Yefim; Komissarov, Dmitry (2008). Chinese Aircraft: China’s aviation industry since 1951 . Manchester: Hikoki Publications.
Anyone have this book?
I do:
There is a notch on the right side of the black paint on the radome for the J-8F that is not present for the J-8H. One of them has the lightning protective strips and the other does not. Clearly there are two different radars being utilized.
