The strength of a structural member doesn’t sit at any single point - it’s the whole section working as a system. The fact that lightening holes can be cut into it without compromising integrity shows there’s margin built in, and that the material around can redistribute the load without issue. A small puncture, even if irregular, should work under the same principle, provided the remaining material is still a significant percentage of the original section (which it is in most cases for small fragments). I mean, structural redundancy is the reason why many aircraft were able to return with clean cuts straight through the spar.

I can see the break line between the tail and fuselage of that b24, its very clean, almost like it was cut, then you got that suspiciously fighter shaped piece of wreckage that doesnt fit in with the puzzle pieces

It seemed to me like you were saying “A Hispano, which fragments, will affect the frame of a Do-217, while an MG 151/20, which relies on blast waves, won’t.” Which is incorrect. blast > fragments (as damage mechanisms). Separately, if we’re talking about more fragments causing more damage than fewer fragments, that’s obviously correct.
We really need to ease up on the fragmentation talk for the structural integrity of large bombers, fragments sever fuel lines and other little things but fragments below 3g does not have much of an effect on the airframe under the skin, gaijin themselves stated this from their sources in the devblog about this rework
