Changes to Bomber Survivability Feedback and Discussion

Call me a silly sausage if you like but I feel like the sheer volume of fire from quad revolver cannons should readily annihilate a bomber in a realistic setting

You’re more or less projecting a mini-fridge at them every ~3 seconds, they shouldn’t shrug that off like it’s nothing

I dont know if id consider that tiny butst against the JU88 turning it into a fireball “survivable”
Also not being able to tank missiles anymore makes the B52 and TU95 (once again) completely useless

I see an issue in the “they tanked multiple missiles”. I tested the DM in the first iteration, and tested vs many missiles. At the end after the first or second missiles your bomber was too damaged to fly properly. Please not seeing a bomber explode does’t mean that the plane is intact

it was too far tuned and im glad its toned back.

Did you not see me mag dump a B29 and it live???

Also, the B52 and TU95 get chaff and flares. They are extremely hot signatures, but catching a missile right as it’s fired tends to still work.

you shot the main section of it. the entire point of this update is specifically for players like you who just shoot wherever they feel and get free kills. youre supposed to aim. you can easily take out all 3 B29s with one strafe from a mustang or a sabre (which i did myself and clipped)

and that helps how??? flaring a missile against 8 engines doesnt help much, and chaff does absolutely nothing when youre literally larger than a football field and also going extremely slow to start, not to mention, neither of those help at all against a quick 30mm to a singular engine which is guaranateed to now start a fire and send the whole plane tumbling to the ground in a fireball

ill reference this clip and this one

The B-52 is comparable to a civilan airliner in size and performance.

how many missiles can a civilian airliner tank?

Enough to fly for 2 hours after eating an R60 to its wing, bit to mentikn a buff is built much tougher than an airliner

I’m not even gonna clarify
Waste of my time to argue with someone who didn’t even read what I said before tying to take up arms

warhead of a 120LB bomb btw

instead of just buffing bombers survivbility you could also buff fighter survivbility too ya know the damage models on some props are like from 2012 and can be broken in half by one 20mm

for example people get pretty lucky irl with fighters direct hit from a FLAK 88 right there most likely stayed in the air due to the round hitting the engine but its like 4 times bigger than most other rounds fired by planes

but ingame a single 20mm HE round completely wrecks planes

but in game we have a one tap tail control system even if you have auxilliary tail controls

i think we need a total damage over haul as it gets updated so little rather than a specfic type buff

another example in game right now instead taking a chunk out of the rudder like how a 20mm would irl the entire rudder falls off
Battle damaged Navy F4U Corsair | Wwii aircraft, Aircraft, Fighter

i guess you could say they were technically not invincible because you could possibly still pilot snipe them

You only need to dump 1 flare and the missile will almost always be nullified… in my experience with B-52H, you only really gonna get hit if you popped flares too late or clueless.

Tbh that’s fine as long as engine fires can actually die down like fuel fire. The only problem atm is that engine fires are essentially permanent and can only be put down by extinguishers.

Bombers seem to still be pretty tough on dev. I set both engines on an He111 on fire and it flew off and burned for a while, went out, and kept flying around.

Bots behave differently to players. Player bombers burn down incredibly easily. They cannot put out fires on the fuselage (and they don’t burn out, they just keep going until controls are destroyed), the engines comfortably reignite with no recourse to stop that nor put out the fire. As it stands, they’re not survivable, they just go down less conveniently for every party involved.

you silly sausage

giving them the mini fridge will only boost their morale and make them stronger

Good!

lol

One of my friends ran out of ammo 3 times dumping cannon shells at one of my G8N’s wings. Even with a fire raging for over 5 minutes i was still flying just fine. I tanked over 3500 20mm shells until he switched to the other wing and clipped my other elevator. Before that I was still able to maintain controlled flight.

If you think that’s “fairly well balanced” I don’t know what else to tell you, other than that you’re the typical bomber main that wants to be borderline invulnerable.

Even a low tier Do 17 that faces BIPLANES most of the time had no issue tanking hundreds of cannon shells.
